Thumbs up City Nav 2010 Australia and UnZud Instructions Clarifications

Just to make it clear for people trying to get maps sorted for this particular thread all the info is here or linked, but it is a bit confusing if this is not something you have done before, like me.

To update Mapsource to 2010 you get the three file parts and unrar them and run the .msi as described, which gets a locked copy in Mapsource. Then get the keygen, about the third referenced one via Rapidshare works nicely, i had archive damage issues with the first one and something else I forget with the second one (download access issue I think)

So, start mapsource and the keygen, get the unit id from the mapsource utility menu (gps has to be connected) and put that in the keygen. Then the bottom bit has a drop down including "unmapped" or similar words, select that and a box pops up. the map id you want is 2046 (which is what is at the top of this thread) or possibly 2006 if you have the first release and googled your way here, but this is the second release, this is the difference:

    # MapID: 2046 City Navigator Australia & New Zealand NT 2010.20
    # MapID: 2006 City Navigator Australia & New Zealand NT 2010.10

OK so you generate the key. You go back to mapsource and select manage maps then the regions tab, then click on Add and paste the key in there. When you say OK (don't need to add a comment) magically the 2010 map is unlocked. There is no explanation, but you certainly don't have to go through the Unlock Online option as it will just end in tears! If you didn't get the map to unlock an entry saying not installed map code unlocked / whatever will appear - just delete any of these and go fix whatever error you made with unit id, map id or whatever. But get it right and you are go to upload the maps to your gps!

And thanks for the cool folk here helping get all this stuff sorted. I have paid three times for the ridiculous maps of earlier generations, and would like to catch a couple of revs for nix to get me to a place where I actually have a functioning product which represents a fair price for the dosh already parted with. These still quite crappy Garmin maps are not entirely their fault, when they bought the sales bull off Sensis they actually believed they were contracting to buy the best maps in the country. However they were sold a lemon as things like www dot street-directory dot com dot au have been much better for years, shame can't get them into our gps's!
