Hi,
Done that, saved as 570, flashed, and ... MISSING SYSTEM SOFTWARE on boot.
Refreshed again original 6.10, all OK, but again no splash screen.
Tried to flash a rotated bitmap 480x320x16, (the same I've uploaded to the 396 using xImage), to 0x10, curiously RGN_Tool identifies it as logo_1005.bin, updater updates it to the 296, but still no Splash.
Really getting out of ideas now, guess I'll have to say goodbye to the plane's photo on startup and just use it as is, with a Brande new Atlantic Baseman v3.

Did you by any chance remember to try a forced re-boot after you got System Software Missing? I should have mentioned that often will happen from downgrading and/or cross-flashing fw. If you didn't force a re-start and you're feeling brave, try loading the modded fw again - it might even boot normally on the subsequent start up but if it shows system software missing again just force it off by holding the power button down until it completely powers down, you might have to hold it for 10-30 seconds to be sure its fully off. Then start it again normally after waiting several seconds.

No joy with the Splash Screen,
Last updates:
While reading the forum, I came across the Splash Screen logo change using GIR EDITOR V058.
I was able to "compile" a .rgn file with my 296 boot.bin + a logo.bin but not the intended 480x320x16 BMP but a 480x212x16 I've found for another GPS model. I deliberately chose a smaller size logo.bin to try not to overlap the remaining of region 16.
section 1005, for region 16 0x10 on RGN_Tool.
Edited it in Hex edidor, and changed the original Oregon7xx Splash Screen description to my own Citabria Splash Screen, to be able to identify it later on.
Flashed it to the 296 but still no Splash Screen.
BUT on GPS_Daemon, when getting unit Info it clearly identifies VERSPLSCRN Citabria Splash Screen 1.00, that mean I wrote it to the correct offset on region 16.
I now need to correctly merge the correct size 480x320 BMP to the logo.bin so it has the correct image and image size.
DOES ANYBODY OUT THERE HAVE A GOOD logo.bin FOR SOME 480x320x16 BITMAP than can share with me ?
Any more ideas ?
Read somewhere on the forum that REGION 16 might HAVE LOST a CHECKSUM, and that checksum might be the last byte of logo section, and that's why my 296 keeps returning FAIL in diagnostic menu (POWER+ENTER).
This might be my case. NEED HELP ON THIS SUBJECT.
Thanks

I haven't had to think much about Logo stuff for a while, but my unclear recollection is that the replacement image file must be the exact same size as the original.
As for the checksum, not re-calculating it doesn't cause any problems other that it showing 'fail' in the menu, although the logo data in region 16 is valid otherwise so the splash screen will display normally.
You should be able to change any BMP image size properties using a basic editor like MS Paint, then write it into the logo.bin using GIR_Editor. See the steps for Paint in the below image:
This is the file "tmp.bmp" which i altered and saved as above in Paint (but i can't say it'll work for your 296 of course - it may be the wrong bit depth): [Only registered and activated users can see links. Rather than just use it, i'm suggesting that you change a BMP yourself, one of your choosing of the required image, and then use GIR_Editor to make a new logo.bin containing it.

Got the MSpaint part OK.
What I'm missing is some sort of logo.bin with the original size 480x320 so I can modify it.
GIR_Editor doesn't allow me to create a NEW file, only to edit existing files and again, does not allow to change the resolution of any file.

What i was meaning is that you can modify any BMP image file to the required picture size of 480 x 320 pixels, however it maybe has to have a native Bit Depth of 16. I get that GIR_Editor certainly doesn't allow you to do that modification, nor indeed create such a file. However ,once you have the correct size BMP it should be able deal with that image and allow you to substitute it into an existing Logo BIN file which has been opened in the program, replacing the image file/s of the same type and picture size that it originally contained.
There's an explanation by turboccc, here, [Only registered and activated users can see links. I guess you'll just have to download a heap of logos to try finding one compatible that uses 480 x 320 x16 BMP, look here: [Only registered and activated users can see links.
