    help Garmin DriveAssist 51 LMT-S

    Lot's of questions here......

Is there any demographic maps available that can be used with this product? NOT topographic Tried the Nuvi 3790 demographic img. It's unlocked but does not work. I find TopoActive Africa v4 (there are for other countries also....) I love it to have something to look at rather than staring at the straight line.

Anyone out there who now how to use any of the "vehicles" in the garage out there. It seems that there are only about 15 in DriveAssist 51 garage. Don't even try to add those from the Nuvi Garage. It won't even recognize them.

In the Nuvi's the file system can be excessed going to the device itself ex. D:.\System...........................

How do one backup this beast? Used to backup using RAR and it saved my live twice. Used to take one before I upgrade.
    Nuvi 3790LMT 2Gig SD,
    Nuvi 200W 2Gig SD,
    Garmin GPS 10X,
    Samsung Galaxy S, nDrive

Confusion of terms? Demographic maps refer to population basically and aren't routable maps. You mean a map for normal highway, city and rural roads I guess. The 'unlocked' map you got from a nuvi 3790 is probably a Garmin City Navigator which may not work in your firmware protected DA51 if it's not a localized device unless you use patched firmware. Look at this thread to understand: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. There is patched V3.50 firmware for DA51 US/EU device HWID 2590 in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Why not? Most vehicles Garmin supplies aren't locked, you can get them thru GarminExpress.

    You mean X:\.System I'm sure.

Once you have hidden and system files allowed in Windows Explorer you can simply take a complete copy of the internal file system, compressed or not. You can do a simple backup of some of it with GarminExpress but it's incomplete. You should also backup the device's nonvolatile memory, if you use the SD pack I've linked above it'll do that for you automatically.

Yes but you must first patch the firmware: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Thanks for the response. The procedure seems so long and a bit complicated. Is there a short and more straight way to get it done, please?

Look at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in the Universal Patcher thread. Check you have HWID 2590 before using the SD kit and read the instructions, warnings and disclaimers carefully. That's for firmware Version 3.50 and it will remove the GSV protection, the latest of course is V4.10 which you can then update to by patching the GCD file and updating easily without converting it to an RGN. Read the first several posts in the Patcher thread carefully, particularly the initial post. You can download original V4.10 from this link, change it's name to gupdate.gcd after patching and before use:

    Thanks for the SD Kit.
I also want to know if you could give me a guide on how to make a DVD map for my car's onboard navigation system, if it is possible.

    @kamfut
It very much depends what nav system. Here isn't the right place though, have a look in the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] section and if necessary post in an appropriate thread there. If you have a VDO Dayton or Denso system it may be possible.
