I had an issue with one of my systems, logged it with Garmin, first steps Garmin help desk advised me to update my firmware to rule out software as the problem - this didn't fix my issue and I now have the until March to sort out my maps. I solved my initial reported problem by buying a new Garmin Reactor CCU - the faulty one is being returned to Garmin.
My GPSMAP unit is:
<PartNumber>006-B1878-00</PartNumber>
<SoftwareVersion>1100</SoftwareVersion>
<Description>GPSMAP 7408</Description>
I would like to revert to the earlier firmware, however the only mechanism to do this is via the SD card slot, and I cannot find the earlier firmware. I think the file is GPSMAPSerieswithSDCard_20170825.exe. I suspect Garmin have removed it from their site. But I can find a trace reference of this file in Google.
Can anyone help?
Thanks Butters. I found the links, however, putting the SD card into the slot has no effect.
Is there something else I must do to revert the firmware?
I have no experience with downgrading chartplotters, maybe someone else will help more. However, as it's an EXE file you'll probably need to connect the plotter to your computer and run "GPSMAPSerieswithSDCard_20170825.exe". There will be a wizard to guide you with prompts and you may at some point need to okay a message that the software you're loading is older that the version on the device. But I'm guessing here.
EDIT: Instruction for UPDATING are here:
So connect a clean SD to the PC to transfer the correct GCD file to it and then put the SD the plotter, hopefully you'll see a message about older version and can still install it. Good luck. However please understand that anything you try must be entirely at your risk because of course I really am just guessing here. If you're unsure, wait for an experienced user to reply.Code:Please Login or Register to see the links

Downgraded firmware and all is well.
I had one issue. I couldn't get passed the loading boot sector message (displayed after holding down the power button when unit boots).
I had two plotters setup as a station. I tried unplugging my NMEA network, and also making a second update card. One of these solutions worked for me.
All the other device firmware was also downgraded.
