Default Nuvi 3598 LMT-D - additional 'onscreen' information - Road numbers, not just names.

    nuvi 3598 LMT-D

Apologies if this is an 'old' question but I am new to the forum and have tried (unsuccessfully) to find an answer ;o(

I have been struggling for a couple of years now, and come from the Navigon side. I find some of their features different (in a better way) to the Nuvi 3598.

The most frustrating is when navigating the information on screen (and verbal instruction) gives the name of the road you need to take, but omit to give the road number.

In the UK we more often refer to a road by it's number, and the Navigon did this.

For example, the Navigon would say: 'At the next junction turn left onto the A419 towards Witney.' and onscreen it shows the destination as 'A419 Witney'.

Whereas the Nuvi 3598 says 'At the next junction turn left onto Witney Road', and onscreen shows just 'Witney Road'.

This is OK if you are local and know the road names, but if you are not, and all the road signs say A419 Witney, then you are stumped.

Funnily though, if the road is a major, like a motorway or duel carriageway, the the information is displayed onscreen.

    So . . . . .

Is there any setting which would allow me to include the road number in the announcement - or even just display it on screen ?

    Thanks

    JonP

That's not setting related, it's coded that way in the unit software and the voice files.

Many streets for several countries have multiple names*. Personally, I think it's better to handle all of them instead of one (assuming there is no collision in the name) Some proggy such as NNG have option allowing to use street number instead of name for area outside your region. Unfortunately, Garmin isn't well known for having that sort of options.

    * One reason is that a street might started out with one basic name (State Highway XXX), then later the city decided to renamed it to someone name to honored that person.
Do not PM me with questions. That's what a forum is for.
