    One of my top preferred file is: gupdate_ChartplottersUpdatewithSDcard_20110722.gcd (no idea on the original link). It has 75 different sections of all kinds. It's a nice file but not more difficult than any other RGN file in terms of processing. Same for RGN. Once you've done one, all others are the same. I'd love a challenging file. Getting bored lately.

    Update: This file had a GCD with 113 sections: GPSMAPSerieswithSDCard_20161219.rar (compressed file I received from someone)

    Have you checked Fenix 5X firmwares?
    They've made some additional GCD validation. Perhaps you'll be able to identify it with your experience in GCD file parsing.

    In my opinion also, it's better to focus on the specifics of some new firmwares, like the fenix 5X fw:

    It introduced two new fields, first* in fenix5X_330.gcd
    type6=1410 data=d200 -> 210
    type6=1510 data=dc00 -> 220
    hist(sections) = 052b 0505 02bd

    and recently in fenix5X_600.gcd
    type6=1410 data=d200 -> 210
    type6=1510 data=5501 -> 341
    hist(sections) = 052b 0505 02bd

    * wasn't there in earlier firmware releases

    @Butters, always in need of cannon fodders.

    Update: fenix5_600.gcd and fenix5S_600.gcd has
    type6=1410 data=c800 -> 200
    type6=1510 data=4e00 -> 78
    hist(sections) = 0505 02bd

    and Forerunner935_600.gcd has
    type6=1410 data=e600 -> 230
    type6=1510 data=4e00 -> 78
    hist(sections) = 0505 02bd

    @Osiris: Cnfhbr pointed me to these files:

    Code:

    They are RGN files within RGN files. interesting. Never saw such files before. Not sure what is the big idea here but I used RGN_Tool to extract the first bin and saved it as .rgn. Then I opened the saved file and I saw the other files within. Surprising. That made my day.

    I do not understand the need for encapsulating .rgn in an .rgn But if the procedure (to extract or build) is recursive, then nothing need changing in tool.

    You got a chance to look at the new type6 values?
