Reply With QuoteYesterday I've tried to do it in Windows XP. And it works. Chkdsk fixed errors on internal memory & I wrote all files again. Now it's working fine. But why it's not working on Win7/8.1/10 now? I've tried it on 4 different laptops & it's failed. But when I tried to do it on 2 of them with WinXP it's working fine!

Garmin failure - nuvi disconnects after trying to check internal memory
Hello!
I have the problem with my nuvi 3790. It connects to PC with win7/8 64bit OK. But when I tries to chkdsk the internal memory through CMD the nuvi's letter (for example J
disappears from My Computer, the chkdsk fails & after it nuvi letter appears agais as J:.
Why I tries to do this - the nuvi has been disconnected from PC incorrect & map is failed to start @ nuvi. No I need to check the internal memory (not on flash card!).
Maybe it's can be checked my internal test from some secret menu? But I can't find it.
Now I DON'T WANT to reflash the unit. Additionally, I think if I'll try to format the unit it will disconnects & unit become a "red brick".

For everybody who have this problem. I solved it using only Windows XP to format nuvi & copy to nuvi. Not in Win7-10.

There is more than one way to format in FAT32 and it's best to avoid windows for doing it for a garmin device internal memory. RMprepUSB is the only reliable method to use in modern Win OS versions when formating Garmin devices because the built-in tool can cause format errors and you should also not use any flavor of Mac.
