help How to split a garmin unlocked map

    Hi everybody,

I've been trying this for a while but with no success so far. The thing is I have this huge 1GB unlocked .img garmin map loaded in Basecamp and I would like to take just one region and save it as another .img file, so I could install it easily on my android mobile and use it with Streetpilot. When I try to install it on my USB drive, it says "No unlocked maps were found for this device."

Is there any way how to make this happen?

    Thank you in advance!

You cannot use an existing *.img file in BC to load parts of it elsewhere. It's possible to split an image using software to make a simple preview map to install on PC which you can work with in MapSource or BaseCamp but search won't work and any so re-compiled img map would be useless on a device for that reason.

BaseCamp itself doesn't 'save' maps to devices or cards/flash drives, it invokes MapInstall to do that job from a PC Install version [gmap folder usually]. You can simply open MapInstall directly and use it to compile the map parts you want into an img file. If MI is patched you can send the .img to any drive, even your PC's system drive. Read up: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Start with this one: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and look for more under 'Mapsource and other programs' etc.

    help

Thank you very much for your reply, Neil! I downloaded the patcher and did patch MapInstall, it seems that BaseCamp was already patched (or at least the patcher says so). But the only result is that now I can't see my two USB drives (both with Garmin folder on it), I could see them in MI before patching it. The other thing is that this map which size I want to reduce is an .img file, it is not a PC install version. So the question is the same: can I somehow reduce the size of this .img saved on the 1st USB pendrive and send it via MI to the 2nd one?

    Thanks again

Read carefully my full answer and the tuts too. BC invokes MI to load img files and it CANNOT use an existing img to make another reduced img, it can only use a PC Install version to compile and load an img sorry.
