I always connect my devices as Mass Storage because I want to see everything in them.
Connect your etrex and get a full backup, then preform a master reset.
Master reset doen't delete any maps in the device (anyway you have Topodrive and its unlock file in your backup).

It allows unlock with the JetMouse Key Gen and most importantly also patching MapInstall lets you save maps directly onto HDD without using a USB flashdrive or SD card.
