Well Neil....used the top of a teaspoon on the 'time' icon and voila!...secret menu.
Checked the card and noticed checksum fail. Followed your link and downloaded the formatting tool and formatted the card.
then created new folder "Garmin" (capital G ) ...renamed the file from gmapprom to gmapsupp...held my breath and replaced the card back into my vintage nuvi 610...turned it back on...another pregnant pause...went to maps...NOW HAVE 2 MAPS SHOWING!!
I restarted the unit and went through the time option and now the checksum is there!!
Can only assume that the mapping will now work when we get off the plane and we won't spend 4 days looking for our hotel!!
I can't thank you guys enough for your patience and help...I'm a firm believer in 'what goes round, comes round...' in which case you lads deserve a good turn from somewhere for your kindness...THANKYOU
Glad the teaspoon worked, but keep it for your Earl Grey mate. Metal is a natural enemy of resistive LCD screens, so if you'd previously chewed your nails down to the quick over this little problem you're better to use a soft lead pencil or a stylus to get pin-point accuracy.
To check your map in Blighty, keep the antenna flap down. From the main screen press 'Tools' [spanner icon]>'System' and change 'Simulator' to On. Hold 'Back' to revert to the main screen and then 'Where to?' to select a Location in Cunuck-land. On the next screen press 'Show Map'>'Set Loc.' Hold 'Back' to revert, then do it again for a destination but this time press 'Go!' to simulate the route. It'll work, trust me i'm an Aussie. ;)
I guess we can mark this thread solved now. Enjoy Canada, and make sure you talk to them like George Harrison ... they'll love that. Maybe not so much in the froggy parts tho' ..... What!?
..TOTALLY SOLVED !!...the 'long and winding road' will be a lot shorter now that i'll know where i'll be going.
You should change your nickname to 'WIZARD'...( AS IN 'THE WIZARD OF OZ' )
BE WELL AND TAKE CARE LADS!!
