Default Oregon 600 vs 650 internal memory sizes?

does the 600 series use flash memory for internal? the 600/600t have 1.7gb and the 650/650t have 4gb? would a fast SD card be just as good as the internal memory speed-wise?

There are no problem with any speed SD-cards upto 64Gb and probably higher. Garmin device does not use fast speed on interface level in any case.

"the 600/600t have 1.7gb and the 650/650t have 4gb" concerns only a free memory in device. Usually total memory size in device are 4Gb for 600 and 8Gb for 650...
