What affects the scrolling and zooming speed on my device?

My Garmin Dakota isn’t the fastest when scrolling and zooming in on maps. I have a choice of maps of different sizes and resolution that I can use. So I am wondering, what exactly affects the scrolling and zooming speed of a map?
- The total size of the map (in Mb).
- The “weight” (e.g., resolution and information density) of that particular part of the map that I am scrolling or zooming in on.
- The total number of maps on my SD card.
