That's so screwed up i don't even know where to start without a stiff belt of Scotch or a strong coffee, maybe both. The correct folder names are ASR and JCV so there's a start and they go in the unit's hidden .System folder or on the card in Garmin root folder. Where have you got those folders and files placed and are they on the unit or card?

Get the Missus to crank over the Model T and go for a drive .... or put the unit in simulation mode and pretend you are.
But best fix up the folder names/placement first.

EDIT: Oops, SF got in first.

Hi Guys, I really appreciate your help, even though I come across as a complete idiot. The following folders/files are in a Garmin folder on my sd card.

I thought the ASR and JCV files had to relate to the map (gmapsupp.img), which is why I named them that way. I hope they are now fixed as above.
I will have to put the 2689 in sim mode to check if the EU map works here in OZ. That's not a problem.
Once again a huge t%@nks for the time and effort put in.

You may not get Voice Command for EU map to work properly in Oz without having a satellite fix in EU. If it doesn't work, try changing the locale to somewhere in EU after a hard reset, UK i'd suggest. However the JCV should work fine in simulation, i know there are many junction views between London and Manchester for example. From 'Where To?' choose Categories > Towns. Type 'London' in Search box, set your location there and then again choose Towns and type Manchester > Go, etc. Press the upper LH corner [turn arrow] and scroll thru the route to see views.

You don't come across a a complete idiot Geoff, just a struggling newby. We all were once too. If no one takes the time to hold your hand a bit it's quite overwhelming to learn this stuff from scratch. Don't be concerned about my ragging you a bit, it's all lighthearted fun and makes this boring basic stuff worthwhile. Even that Euro-type smokefree has a sense of humour [sort of]. At least you've always got replies to your questions. It's when ppl ignore you that you should worry ....

I have just done a simulated trip from Manchester to London. Seems to be working beautifully. Th@%ks a million guys, you (collectively) have turned a frustrated hair pulling dunce into a person who now knows what he doesn't know.
By the way, I'm still getting the 'can't unlock maps' message when I start up the 2689, but I just ignore it.
Do I get a solved sticker now??
    Cheers,

You have a locked .img somewhere in your nuvi, did you unlock gmap3d.img?

The nüvi 2689 does not support 3D buildings and landmarks, so if you have a gmap3d.img file on board, remove it.
