    NUVI Nuvi 2575 SE-Asia question

    Hi Guys,

sorry if this is the wrong thread, if so please move it.

    I have a question about a Nuvi 2575 Se-Asia.

I bought this GPS here (I live in SE-Asia) a couple of years ago, and it's still oke and doing it's job.

Now I want to go on a trip to Europe next year and instead of me buying a new GPS over there I want to take my GPS with me and just buy the City Navigator map on SD.

Will this idea I have work ?

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies, appreciated.

Yes it will work. You can either buy the map on a microSD card from a Garmim dealer or direct from Garmin in which case the map will be locked to the card's serial number [CID or Card Identification number] and can be used in any compatible device. You can also purchase a download version from Garmin in which case it will be locked to your device's UID [Unit Identification number], it may then be placed on it's internal memory if there's sufficient space or on a microSD but still will be locked to the UID in that case. You can also buy it as a DVD in which case you load it to your computer and can select only certain parts of EU to send to the unit/card. Look at the 'Requirements' tab here:

Something worth thinking about is that you can buy a cheap nuvi in UK or EU when you get there for maybe the same or not a lot more than the cost of only the map. The map's cost may vary depending on the country where you order it from and therefore might be more that the 100 bucks the US site shows when you buy it in Asia.

    ^ Perfect thanks a lot.

After reading your post and the website I have some more questions if I may ?

If I buy the DVD will I then also be able to use that map with BaseCamp (so will it be Installed on the PC) or must I have my GPS connected to the PC the whole time ? Or must I buy 2 Maps in this case ? One for my GPS and 1 for my PC ?

And another question, on the Website you linked it says this under "Overview"

    • (DVD only) Includes MapSource® computer software that lets you plan trips on your computer and transfer waypoints, routes and tracks between your computer and your device.
And I thought that MapSource wasn't used anymore

A good idea with me buying a cheap GPS back in Europe, but then I have the same problem but then other way around.

Would the GPS I buy there be compatible with the Thailand ESRI Maps (CN Thailand) ?

    Thanks again, really appreciated.

You can separately use both the PC installed mapping data in BaseCamp as well as the .img file on your device or card when connected to computer. The PC installed data is used to compile an img file map to send to the device or media card so no need to buy an img as download or sd card if you get the DVD.

Don't use MS for installing maps on a device or card, but it's still fine for waypoints and routes etc. Use only MapInstall for sending map data as an img.

It might have a problem with the Thai only map, but Dual version should be fine. If that's not right i'm sure a local TH member will correct me or you could ask about compatibility for US/EU firmware units in the map thread: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Of course you could also save yourself many baht here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
