Default Edge 705 issue after format.

Hello, my Edge 705 was bricked so I did format it with my Macbook. Now it boots and works but doesn't read anything on the gps memory, maps must be on the sd card, and it's the same for the gupdate.gcd files. So it doesn't record my gpx tracks too and sync. I have too push "power" for about 15 sec ti go on mass storage.
I did format it with a windows computer but same issue.

    Any idea ?

    Thank you.

    Welcome to GPSPower.net.

Performing a format will wipe everything off the internal storage of the unit, including system files required for proper operation. Have you tried updating the unit's software using WebUpdater?

Thank you. Yes I did but even if my computer detects the gps, webupdater doesn't recognize it

I just succeeded in one thing : by copying the .gcd file on the sd card, i downgraded from 3.3 to 3.2. Now mass storage is ok when I plug but still not recognized in webupdater.

If your second format using Windows was with the built-in tool, do it again with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

No, the hardware was not affected. The problem is that Garmin devices are very sensitive to the format of the visible file system. Not all FAT formats are the same by any means and although with some device types it doesn't matter at all, for Garmin devices it can be crucial to have the exactly correct format. RMPrepUSB format as per that link's settings mimics the original factory settings used by Garmin.

If you've heard the English speaker's saying 'There's more than one way to skin a cat' [yuk!] it's worth remembering 'There's more than one way to format in FAT'. NEVER use a Mac for Garmin formatting it'll always be a problem and mostly Windows gets it wrong for most Garmin devices too.

Thread marked solved. Thanks for reporting back.
