Well reading my posts good enough is something even i do not manage that well. Anyway, i will walk with my rucksack, and i think i will not have many contacts with a normal energy net, so the long lasting AA-Version would be a important point for me. Btw your 276C has a nice Display also.
You said, the Montana would be the first category, did you mean by little energy consumption or overall ? Because the price is pretty close to the etrex 35t.

Haha! Then you are 'trekking' or 'hiking' in my vocabulary, not 'touring'. Because you said in the initial post 'I plan to make a long tour ....' i [wrongly] assumed you would be on a bike of some sort. 'Tour de Norge', ja? ..... Regardless, don't buy the Teasi is still my advice, 'cos you could still end up in a creek with it [sans sykkel, ja?].
FR and NO go ok together, non?
PS: Are you sure you're from DE? Your sense of humour is more like British, if not quite DownUnder ..... My German friends seem to have a more restrained version of yours .... psst! i don't think your fellow Europeans are picking up it's nuances [another goddam froggy word, dammit!].

Aha, carrying all in rucksack for me points on one thing: weight! Although Norway is one of the countries in the world that uses most electric energy there are no outlets in the mountains so long battery life is essential and the Montana has too short battery life and weighs too much. It is a good solution for MC (where you have access to power) or mountainbike as long as your tours are under say 4 hours. And the 276C is excellent on a MC but it is a heavy lump and should not be carried...

So you should go for an etrex or gpsmap60/64 in my opinion. If you are counting grams, use lithium AA batteries that is really lightweight and lots of energy even when it is -25 degrees (winter climbing for the hard ones...)

Good topo maps for Norway can be found here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or use the sticky index to find what you need.

Thank you for your kind words, but i don't have any humor, it's all desperation.

So it all points to either the 35t or the 64s. To be honest, since i'm a greenhorn on gps, i tend to the 35t because the 64s is(i think someone said that here also) more for the experienced user, with all its features. I plan to stay at the west coast, so because of the tail of the gulf stream temperatures will not be that extreme(i hope).
And battery life of 16 hours is around the same like the 64s has. I plan to support my energy household with a solar panel( in norway i know) and i bought a usb-charger for AA-accumulators.
    It's this one:

Still i'm not sure if its the best charger, but when it comes to USB-chargers the sortiment is not that big it seems.

NO. Oregon 600t is with Europe-Topo (any OSM is better) or US-Topo and the eTrex 35t is only US-Topo. In Europe the eTrex 35 has special Garmin-OSM. Updates? I think no.

Yes, I agree that the etrex would be your choise. Had a quick look at the different extrex models and I would choose the 30x rather than the 35t. Reason is that as far as I could see the screen of the 30x is smaller (2.2" vs 2.6") but has a higher resolution (240x320 vs 160x240) and the battery life is longer (up to 25h vs 16h). So if your eyes are good (or bring strong glasses...) you can see more with the 30x. You always want to see more info on the screen, it should be the size of an A4 paper and still fit into your pocket
And I also agree that the 60/64 series has more setting possibilities (much more) and takes longer to learn if you ever learn all settings, I still get lost in the menues of my old 60Csx.

West coast of Norway is incredibly beautiful and viwes can be stunning, BUT the weather has a standard setting of rain and anything else than rain must be seen as a bonus. Look at the weather statistics for i.e. Bergen and you will understand what I mean. But the weather is very local and a little east/south like Telemark can be more reliable since the prevailing winds are west and the first mountains take most of the rain. Good luck is the best travelling companion.

What about the etrex 30x ? I mean has it openstreetmap for europe, do you know ? I saw that the maps one can buy are insanely expensive, many times more expensive then the gps-device if you want to cover a whole country.

Thanks for the hints for norway. What you wrote about the 30x is very bribing to me, especially the long battery life. The smaller display hurts because my eyes are not that good anymore and i still don't have glasses because my doc says i shouldn't spoil my eyes to early or later i will walk around like a mole. Actually the magnifying glass is my best friend, i can use this then with the 30x

eTrex 30x comes with the "[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]"
Scale is 1:100.000 which I think is not detailed enough.

I haven't updated the firmware of the eTrex yet (still at v2.0) and all maps which can be downloaded on this forum work great.
A firmware update might disrupt this possibility.

I can't advise you on which map to use for Norway, but [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] looks like a good start.

Quality of OSM maps depends on the region: one region could be extremely good, other region could be inaccurate. Don't know the quality for the Norwegian part.
