    Default How to install map on a Garmin Nuvi40LM

    Hi,

    in need of help on how to install latest philippine map on my garming nuvi40lm
    but my nuvi40lm came from canada.
    is there a tutorial or step by step for dummies on how to install it?
    i already search and read some of the thread and still confuse about how to do it

    i already downloaded the map.
    unlock it using gimgunlock (drag the gmapprom image) i dont know if its already unlock

    Easy to know it with Gmaptool or Imgtool.

    still confused.
    will gmaptool work without mapsource?
    because i have read on one of the thread that mapsource is discontinued and just use basecamp

    hi sorry so many messages.
    i've tried this.
    i input the jcv file into the jcv folder of the internal garming memory
    then rename the gmapprom to gmapprom1 and input to the garmin memory
    is this correct?

    Your unit can read a map "<any_name>.img" put in either Map folder of unit or microSD card [latter option is better for unlocked maps]. e.g.: "x:\Map\Philippines.img" and "x:\Garmin\JVC\*.jcv" will work fine and is much safer than putting the files on internal memory [that way if they cause a problem, you can just remove the card].

    will do that. but yes, adding the image does it. it works
    i'll try to move the files to my sd card later.
    btw will it works with another map that is on my sd card? (eg sd:\garmin\gmapsupp)? sorry

    Yes, it won't interfere with gmapsupp.img in Garmin folder and also you can have multiple 'anyname' maps [within reason] in Map folder.
