You only need to download gmapprom file in NT format and unlock with gimunlock
Hi All.
I have an old Nuvi 780 and want to update maps.
It's been so long since I did the updates on a unit that doesn't have the Lifetime maps included, that I'm pretty rusty at it.
The unit does not have a lifetime maps subscription, but can I connect to the Garmin site and it will update everything but not unlock the maps? Then it would be easy to use gimunlock to unlock the map.
The 780 "may" require some model specific files to match whatever map is loaded, but I think many of the older units didn't need specific files because they don't have 3D buildings etc.
So... what would be the easiest/fastest method to use to do the map update eon the 780 ?
I will update the software to the latest version while I'm at it.
Thanks.

The best way is to make a nuvi backup first, then look at old files in nuvi and replace them, remove old gmapprom.gma if present and gmapprom.unl.

Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
Update firmware and then look at garmindevice.xml in Garmin folder for supported files and their paths
