Default Best "pre-protection" firmware road and trail GPS models?

I'd like to hear some opinions on the best Garmin models that still allow the use of the latest unlocked maps. Not sure if I really need anything new (my 3450 and Oregon 450 both work great), but I would at least like to compare the capabilities and make an informed decision. Any comments are most appreciated.

Till now 35xx series can fully use unlocked maps, Monterra and Oregon 6xx too.
Newer devices have protection. Unlocked maps (any) don't work in 2014 Nuvi devices, no unlocker available.
    Actually only 1 new nuvi exception: nuvi 4695R / 4592R / 4590,
like in Gpsmap 64 and Edge 1000, maps can be unlocked by new gimgunlock 0.03+MapSigPatch but Unicode maps needs some dirty tricks anyway.
Some 2013/14 Nuvi devices require downgrading firmware, if available, to use unlocked maps.

Thanks catymag. So for an upgrade to my 3450 and staying with pre-2014 models, the 3597 or the 2797 seem like the obvious choices, and for the Oregon 450, the Oregon 600, Montana 600 or the Monterra. I have seen some posts here and elsewhere that imply these models are also affected by the authentication change for later firmware updates-is that the case, or do any (or all) of these still read unlocked maps with the most currently available firmware (as do my current models)? I have been comparing these against each other to see if the improvement on the newer models is worth the cost of an upgrade-not sure it is justified for the 3450 (except for the larger screen on the 2597), but the brighter screen and GLONASS capability are pretty compelling reasons for upgrading the 450 to one of the others-the 450's screen is pretty dim, even when not in direct sunlight, which is frequently the case when on the trail.

The only one outdoor device actually with protected fw is 64, as said above, if you have read else, forget it.
    About nuvis 2xx7:
    If you have 2xx7 (8) (PartNumber> 006-B1582-00), unlocker works
    If you have 2xx7 (8) (PartNumber> 006-B2077-00), doesn't work.
