Default What coordinates system is this please?

    Hello everybody,
I need to find what is this system of coordinate.
i did record some gps points with a unit that I do not know...and my gps is dead!
    it looks like this:
    52174148E
    1077749N
This point is in Philippines, on Siargao Island, close to Dapa city.
Do you know which unit/system of coordinates it is please?
    Thank you

    mama

    Hi and welcome to GPSpower.net.

You asked this same question more than 2 years ago in another forum. Still no conclusive answer?

    @mamamouchi
As a side note, it's not possible to convert standard UTM grid references without knowing in which of the 60 possible earth zones they're contained as well as whether N or S of the Equator. In the above case it's given by tli correctly as 52N, which can be deduced from the other information you've supplied: "Philippines, on Siargao Island, close to Dapa city". In fact when converted from UTM to Lat/Lon to 4 decimal places as 9.7367 126.0304 as shown and near enough 9°44'12.7"N 126°01'49.4"E, that point is in fact not all that close to Dapa City nor on Siargao Isl but about 2 or 3 kilometres roughly SW and in open sea, somewhat to the east of the northern-most point of Bacus Grande.

I've forgotten more about that type of conversion than i can remember, but i think really such UTM conversions are only quite accurate for continental North Americas and NATO UTM is better used for Lat/Lon of the rest of the world. The NATO version has alpha codes as zones of Latitude compensating somewhat of the distortion when extrapolating the spherical data of the earth to a two dimensional rectangular representation, rather than simply N or S of the equator as does the standard version.

Question is, if the position is in WGS84 datum, becasuse Philippine reference system is PRS92, which has the different ellipsoid (Clarke 1866 see [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]) and the different location of the ellipsoid (see [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]). In this case the conversion from UTM to lat/lon using WGS4 is not correct.

    Hi Neil, Hi tli
    Thank you again.
The first point looks good, because it is a dive site there.
But I am trying with other points, and it does not work:
per exemple, there is a famous dive site here, called Blue Cathedral. I know exactly where it is. (lat 9.834645, long 126.167505 on google earth)
The info that I have is this:
    52174139E
    1077749N
If I convert it with [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    , it does not match.

same with other points that I have. Is it standard UTM or NATO UTM please?
