Default Add JCV/Lane assist to nuvi 205w - Any new guides?

    HI,
Just passes my driving test and started on the journey of 4 wheelers
So bought a nuvi 205w and have added the latest maps.

I want to add JCV/Lane assist on my nuvi 205w-S/W ver: 7.60- S2 board.

All the guides i see are from 2009/10. I am not sure if they are still valid or if there are any newer methods to add the JCV to 205w.

Experienced people, can you help please?

I doubt there are any newer methods, as that model has long since been discontinued by Garmin.

Hi Strephon, I am still surprised at how popular this model is even though it is so old. I think there would be good number of people who are still using it (and have added JCV/Lane assist)

Yeah, 2x5/2x5W are good tough units and still kind of popular. But i personally agree with Strephon, there's no new known jcv conversions and it's not worth the effort to get jcv converting to Asian imo. You'll need to convert to an old SG/MY version [JCV support was dropped in v2.?] but because of cr*p TTS and the other inherent risks it's better to not do it anyway i reckon. You might like to consider a conversion to 465 if you have HWID 0827 [gets LA but no JCV], it's pretty safe if you retain HWID using hybrid fw but not so if you do a full flash to HWID 0943 using full 465 fw.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] pages 7 & 8 re SG conversion, and particularly [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] if you wish to convert to 465 also [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

If you want just TTS in your 205W you can flash a [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. If you convert to 465 you may have to flash a new logo anyway, either senior 2x5W or 465 logo. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Thanks for your details reply Neil.
Based on your suggestions i have decided to upgrade my 205w to 465. As per the instructions in Method 1 i got the below GCD files for 205w and 465.
    Code:

    Code:

The only issue i am facing is in Step 3, it says "In the Overrides section, check HWID and enter 1273 in the field. Press the RGN button to save the modded fw as 127301000xxx.rgn". Will it be the same 1273 for 205w -> 465 as well or something else?

You've quoted '27301000xxx.rgn' from Step 3 in [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] In the post #77 of the firmware thread linked in my previous post regarding using that tut as a guide, it says this:

Quote Originally Posted by Neil View Post

If you have 0827, use the 265W boot.bin combined with 465 fw_all.bin and HWID overrides set to 0827 in RGN_Tool for safety. You can follow 'Method 1' described in the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and simply substitute the firmwares as necessary. Latest v4.20 465 firmware is here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Be sure to use latest versions of both firmwares to obtain the boot and fw_all components. You can leave the 265W logo as-is or flash 465 logo to region 16, available here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Make sure you back up region 41 [NV Backup] before doing anything. Basic files such as Voice, Text etc except Help are the same on both units.
    So to be clear:
The nuvi 2460>dezl 560 conversion thread was linked as a GUIDE only. 2730 is HWID of nuvi 2460, don't name your rgn file anything other than 082701000420.rgn and use overrides to HWID 0827 ONLY and SW Version 420 in RGN_Tool. Your question suggests that you maybe haven't quite got your head around the process yet. Please don't do this unless you do fully understand the process and its possible risks [risk is actually extremely low if you retain hwid and use 2x5W boot bin and don't do anything silly]. Be certain that your 205W is in fact HWID 0827 [hold battery symbol for ~6 seconds to enter hidden menu, press next > Start Test > More and at the top of that page look the the entry next to Boot BLK. If it's B1091-00 don't attempt the conversion, only do it if your 205W has B0827-00. If it is 0827, procced as follows:

    1. Open nuvi465T_GCDFile__420.gcd in RGN_Tool, save the fw_all.bin [2nd section] somewhere convenient.
    2. Open nuvi2x5W_GCDFile__760.gcd in RGN_Tool, press 'Load' on the 2nd section and browse to where you've save fw_all.bin from 465 firmware to load it. Do the HWID and SW Version overrides as detailed above.
    3. Check the 3rd section to enable it and press 'Load', browse to where you've saved the 465 logo.bin and select it [get the 465_logo.bin from here: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and extract it, rename it 16.bin if you want but it doesn't matter]. In explanation, your 205W as OEM has a modded logo which disables TTS. To enable TTS you need to replace it. This is what you should now have in RGN_Tool:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    4. Press the 'RGN' button on the top left of the GUI and save as 082701000420.rgn ONLY.
    5. Put [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] in the same folder as the rgn file and drag it onto Updater.exe which will open as a GUI, keep it visible on your Desktop with the radio button next to 'USB Device' selected.
    6. Put your 205W into preboot by holding the screen top LH corner and immediately connect the miniUSB to it [have the lead ready plugged into a rear port of your PC], watch the window next to 'USB Device' and immediately you see the unit's details appear press 'OK' or just hit Enter key, hold screen at least until you see 'Loader' appear on the screen.

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    Important:
    1. Back up your unit's file system and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] before you do anything. After flashing, hard reset it again.
    2. If you're uncomfortable making the firmware yourself, post again and i'll upload a ready-made kit for you. Better to do it yourself for the experience and sense of accomplishment though.

    Hi Neil,
Very kind of you to explain all the required steps in so much detail.
I did all the 6 steps correctly and had no hitches anywhere but at Step 6, when the details appeared next to USB device and i pressed OK, then the below message was displayed:

Your current software version is newer than the update version.
Do you want to replace your current software version with an older software version?

I clicked Yes and then after the update this message was shown:

There is a problem with this GARMIN application. Please press the button below to copy the log file to the clipboard, then paste it into an email. Send the mail to GARMIN tech support.

    Error information:

Processor: Pentium Pro or Pentium II, RAM: 2097151 KB
    IOU_UTILITIES.CPP-203-2.7

Where could the problem be? My nuvi's S/W version is 7.60.

That will sometimes happen. Just keep trying and usually the flash will be accepted within a few goes. BTW, don't send the error report to Garmin obviously .

Yup, fair comment Giomen. But before posting the guide for imgr i converted an old [1GB] 255 with AU logo to 465 using that rgn file and Updater.exe initially gave that error but flashed properly on the 2nd attempt. I've since downloaded kunix's modded RGN_Tool but haven't tested it [i don't need to, we both know it will work anyway, right? ].
