Several futile attempts, Neil.Quote:

Tried atleast 15-20 times with the original RGN Tool, then the patched 0.84 tool (Suggested by Giomen) then with patched 0.87 tool. None worked.
Is it the problem with the timing of removing the finger from the top left hand corner?
The way i did:
1. Connect USB lead
2. As soon as the USB device details appear press ok
3. Press ok for "Do you want to replace your current software version with an older software version?"
4. "Loading Loader" message appears on the unit
5. "Loader" appears on the unit
6. Release the finger quickly
7. After few seconds the same error message appears - "There is a problem with this GARMIN application.":struggle:
Do you have .rgn in the same folder than Updater.exe?
@imgr
I think maybe you've made something wrong. I used the file shown in post #6 to flash an old 255 and as i reported in post #10, succeeded on 2nd attempt. Did you also try with the older firmware in PouchX file posted by Loly above? It doesn't include the logo.bin, or you can try with the 4.60 fw without the logo initially and then flash the logo later if successful.
Yes Catymag, I have both the rgn file and the updater in the same folder.Quote:

I havent tried the PouchX file because it had a name like 082701000321.rgn but i was all along using the file 082701000420.rgn. So was not sure if this file can be used for my 205w unit.
Prob i will try without the logo and try flashing. Will report back what happens.
The PouchX file 082701000321.rgn is the same combination of firmware as 082701000420.rgn [2x5W boot.bin and 465 fw_all.bin, w/o the logo of course] but contains earlier versions of firmware modified by PouchX. It's known to work, it's very safe and it's a little smaller than the later firmware version combo which may help with the loading.
You would still need to flash the 465 logo to enable TTS i think, unless your 205W has previously been flashed with the senior 2x5W logo to enable TTS. That can be done later anyway if needed, so baby steps ... try either of the files without the logo.bin initially.
Finally it worked!!!!!PouchX file worked. It upgraded the software and the Updater said upgrade succeeded. I am yet to take it on a ride after the upgrade to see the lane assist. Is their anywhere in the hidden menus to see the firmware has been flashed?Quote:

I also did the TTS upgrade using the post you mentioned - [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...]
Just did a simulated drive in the GPS unit. Didn't announce the street names. Does TTS not work in sumlation mode or any setting needs to be enabled somewhere?
The unit should now show 'nuvi 465' in small white print instead of 'nuvi 205W' at the base of the boot screen. You can check the fw version a few ways: From main screen - Tools>Settings>System>About. From main screen - Hold battery symbol for ~5-6 seconds to enter hidden menu>Next>Start Test>More then look at top of page, 3rd line will show the version after 'System B0827-00'. Finally, connect to PC and look at the GarminDevice.xml in a web browser [found in the unit's Garmin folder]. The fw version also shows in there, this is from the conversion i did the other day to v4.20 on the old 1GB nuvi255 AU version:
You need to load a TTS voice. The logo you've added is for senior 2x5W which will enable the street name announcement but that function requires specific voice files. Connect to WebUpdater and they should now be offered. Don't upgrade the firmware with that method or it will flash on boot back to 2x5W. After you connect to PC, but before starting WU, using NotePad edit the xml file by changing the 3 numbers following <SoftwareVersion> to 760. i.e. so it has this: <SoftwareVersion>760</SoftwareVersion>. That will allow you to go to Voice etc files without WU wanting to update the fw.Code:..............
-<Model>
<PartNumber>006-B0827-00</PartNumber>
<SoftwareVersion>420</SoftwareVersion>
<Description>nüvi 465</Description>
................
No need to change the xml file back after you've updated, the unit will re-write it correctly on reboot anyway.
BTW, never flash the full 465 firmware to your unit. That will change the hwid from 0827 to 0943 and increase the chance of it being permanently bricked immensely.
Ahhh no :weep:... Looks like it has not updated. Still says 205w everywhere.Quote:

So i re-did the update again. I saw something interesting. It said "Loading Loader" > Loader > Software Loading and the unit restarted. It said Nuvi 465 at the bottom and then PouchX. I was happy momentarily. Then again it said "Loading Loader" > Loader > Software Loading and unit restarted and back to 205w. So I end up with 205w again. Looks like my unit has some restriction or locked firmware which cannot be updated.
