No ideas anyone?
Hello there, I'm looking at buying a few second hand units that I can put to use for self-drive tours. I have recorded tracks that I like to display on the units, if this doesn't work I have to resort to transferring routes created in Mapsource / Basecamp along with maps that don't come with the unit. My main issue is that routing is very unreliable in our region, you will end up on 4wd tracks with your Ford Fiesta...
I got from a friend a 255 but it cannot handle custom routes. I also read that even if you create custom routes in the software the unit will calculate them anew. Can this be prevented?
I would be happy if you could recommend a suitable unit and approach. Or is there any Android app that can do the job?
Thanks so much for your help!
No ideas anyone?
You can load "trips" from Basecamp to recent Nuvis, no routes, neither tracks (no Nuvi can import tracks).
You can load routes from Mapsource to nuvi 1450/90.
All of the newer models have limited compatibility with computer route planning because they have switched to something called "trips", but old 1400 series can use classic Garmin "routes".
You need to import the routes once Basecamp has sent them to your nuvi. Go to Tools>My data on 14xx and select Import Routes.
You have to navigate to get to the good.
Galaxy S5 Kitkat 4.4.2 / Nuvi1200->1250 / Nuvi3790T->34xx / Nuvi 2200 / Nuvi 66 / Oregon 600
There is a workaround that works for all types of gps.
Once learned it is quite easy to do.
The method is to produce a "trackmap" that has a transparent background and thus will be seen over the original map.
Use IMGfromGPX (JaVaWa) to transfer a track recorded with a gps or drawn with Mapsource, GoogleEarth or whatever. Some expermenting and use a map id that is not used in your system. This creates an .img map
Install this map with JaVaWa GMTK or install.cmd into your PC.
Now with Mapsource create a gmapsupp.img and install in gps.
In gps activate both the the new trackmap and the background map and you should see the track over the background map.
This will work for all garmin gps models as far as I know.
Other forum members maybe can contribute with even smarter and smoother ways to do this, I seldom use this method myself since I have my old 276C that can use routes better than nuvis.
