Default Updates are coming to HomePort and BaseCamp

Updates Are Coming to HomePort and BaseCamp

Next month, Garmin is releasing new versions of HomePort™ and BaseCamp™ that provide improved data security. At that time, Garmin will retire the Cloud Storage option. Be sure to export your user data from Garmin Cloud Storage before May 21, 2018. In addition, BaseCamp™ allows you to configure your favorite cloud storage provider as a replacement so you can keep your favorite waypoints in the same place you store your other important files. Please note, data will no longer be available from Garmin Cloud Storage after May 21, 2018. Detailed instructions for exporting your user data can be found in our FAQ.
If you used BaseCamp with Garmin Adventures™, thank you for your participation in our online community for the past 5 years. It’s with sorrow we announce the end of Garmin Adventures. Any adventures you have created in BaseCamp will remain on your local computer but will be removed from the online community after May 21, 2018. You will still be able to create Garmin Adventures on your computer and load them to your Garmin device. See our BaseCamp Support Center content if you need assistance.
For HomePort users, Garmin offers an alternative to manage your waypoints, routes and other user data, without the need for the computer. The new ActiveCaptain® app, available for both Apple® and Android™ mobile devices, lets you create and sync waypoints and routes between your mobile device and your compatible chartplotter and much more. Learn more about ActiveCaptain today.

And what this has got with software and tools?
This are "news". Or rumor. Or advertisement.
    Or whatever.

Content of your post is not software neither a tool.
    It's actually conventional advertising.

I feel it is as it is a notification that the software is about to change, " it could also go in News"

I would not agree with you, Mag.
What this person is doing for years, is the posting of similar "news" and the collection of amateurs' likes, and that's all.

So long as the information is true it stays "but if it becomes False then it is deleted as spam and the member as well".

This is not a rumor, it's genuine although not being widely reported as yet. Garmin has target emailed only those ppl who use Garmin's cloud storage for BaseCamp and HomePort data. It's hardly 'news' of an update however, more accurately it's quiet advance advice of intended removal of a service and only specifically to the individuals affected. A simple google search confirms it's veracity in Garmin's own forum:

Regardless of whether this is news, spam, software or tools related, a word to the wise. Download the current installation file of Homeport and save it. If the new Homeport update overwrites (most likely) the current one and it come with features you do not want (like map authentification) then you can always go back and re-install the 'old' Homeport.

As matter of fact I keep all versions of Software updates I use on My Computer and have a separate internal Drive just for Software "some software I have no idea what it is anymore, when I check the date ^_^. My desktop currently STILL stores up to 6.5TB of data and has been the last 5 years." No reason to update/upgrade my System anymore unless there is a failure. Is an AMD 8 core running at 4GHZ and 3 monitors.
So YES keep copies of software to a point.
