    Default Bricked my 765t

Hi folks. I bought a 765t off ebay, it worked fine when I got it. Used Garmin Express to update the firmware and such, worked fine after that. Put new maps and matching jcv file on device manually, along with some mp3 files on a separate sd card, and now the device gets stuck at loading maps screen.

I forgot to safely remove device when I unplugged it, but I was hooked up to a linux computer at the time and usually that doesn't matter. I suspect the new map file is corrupt, but since the device no longer registers as a usb device in windows or linux I can't tell. I tried a soft reset, that didn't work, then a hard reset, but I never got the prompt to delete user data. So I'm guessing that didn't work.

I found the doc file that explains how to unbrick a nuvi. I downloaded a firmware file and Using Garmincure3 made a firmware cure file. When I click updater.exe it says it can't "ERROR: can't run J:\new\updater.exe" Fine, so I ran updater by itself with the file garmincure3 produced, and i get to the screen where it asks you to select between com and usb. I select usb, put my device into pre-boot mode, it shows up, i click ok,
and then it tells me no updates are available and the device goes into touch calibration mode.

When I run quickcure it tells me exception: readfile. Guess I should have formatted it the one time I got it to mount.

I feel like I'm so close to fixing this thing. So my question is, is the problem that my firmware is already up to date and therefore I can't update it, or did I miss a step somewhere? If someone could point me to the newest firmware that would be great as well, the firmware i'm using is from 2012 according the date modified.

    Thank you in advance.

You have to be quick with nuvi 7 series in preboot, only get about 10 secs before pre-boot changes to the callibration screen where other units will give you much longer. See the Garmin devices preboot thread, read [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] particularly.

Yes, you're best to run the cure fw in Updater.exe separately for 7xx for the reason of short preboot time. The latest firmware for 7x5 is V4.50 from 6th Sept 2012. Always best to use the same fw version if possible to make the cure, probably you've done that. Sometimes Updater will throw an error message on the first click of 'OK' but load the firmware the next click of ok if you're quick enough to exit the message window and try again [i.e. within that 10 sec window to start the flash].
PS: Welcome to GPSPower [even if you are from FL]

Nothing i guess, except for too many old folk and alligators [sorry, just prefer the West Coast really but wuz only joshin' ya anyway]. 'fubar' use indicates a military background in this part of the world.

Good you're sorted so marked the thread SOLVED.

Default Fun NEW problem with my 765T

Me again. After unfuxxing my device, I was testing out all the functions my 200W doesn't have, and I noticed something weird. When a turn comes up, a little green icon shows up in the top left hand corner. Normally when I hit this icon the screen splits, and on the left hand side it shows the map and the upcoming turn, and on the right it says the name of the street and the direction I should turn.

What's happening to me is the right side shows up, but the left side, the map flickers and then the whole thing reverts back to the main map, only the map is gone, and only the vehicle and the dashboard are there. I can get it back by hitting menu, and then view map. I don't use this function very often but I'd like to get it working before my trip to Atlanta for Halloween.

    Any ideas?

Won't hold being a marine against you either. We really don't have the direct equivalent here, just the 3 arms.

If you mean you used QuickCure3 not Cure3, i'll add 765 to the known usable units in the Cure3 thread. Although imo there's no risk using it, nobody has reported previously that QuickCure3 works with a bricked 7 series. Please confirm that it was QuickCure you used before i do that.

If you didn't reset it after curing, your new problem might be fixed by a hard rest. Start with the the unit fully off, press the lower RH corner then power on. Keep holding until a prompt appears asking 'Do you want to erase all user data'.

I used quickcure to force the device into mass storage mode. I then deleted the new map. I did not flash the firmware.

I hard rest the device and now my Bluetooth won't connect to my phone. It did previously. It does pair with my headset. Also the battery meter said it was at 3/4, but while i was doing the pairing it gave me the low battery warning.

Think I might have a lemon on my hands.

Connect to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and update/reload the unit firmware [latest is v4.50, if it's already OB load it again], then check for further updates such as BT firmware. Hard reset again both before and after updates.

The battery is probably on the way out but they're cheap enough and i think the same one as 2 series. Many common Nokia batteries can be adapted with a little soldering for nuvi models: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Check for a 99power . com video on youtube, they have very good guides for opening units safely. The 765 is a very well-featured robust unit, but they're all a bit long in the tooth now.

Using webupdater I downloaded and reinstalled 4.5. Headset and phone can now connect, unfortunately not at the same time. Which sucks, I wish I could use ad2p for the media player and headset for the phone. i guess that's ok I don't get many phone calls anyway, and my bluetooth headset sounds better than the Garmin speaker.

Actually, I'm going to attempt to connect my phone to the headset, and then the headset to the Garmin and see if that has any effect.... I know that when I connect my headset to the computer i have to connect to my phone first or it doesn't hook up with the right services.
