    Default Missing .VPM Files! (3590)

Hi I placed some .VPM files in the Voice folder on the internal storage, however, they are not in my settings list of voices. (3590)
    Am I missing something?

Maybe they are not compatible with 3590 [e.g. TTS3 voices for 2013 devices won't work on tour 3590, TTS1 for earlier units either]. Where did you get the files from, are they custom .vpn files or 'standard' garmin files? Anything offered by WebUpdater or GarminExpress will be usable by your unit.

The voice files .vpm are part of the map that is installed in the GPS.
If it is not the same version will not work.

That's an 'after-market' custom voice. I think there are a couple of versions around of Governator/Terminator and one is X-rated with the f-bomb in it so be careful with that.

All properly-made custom .vpm voices will work in most nuvis [3xx/6xx may be exceptions for some but only some made by Garmin themselves afaik] but they are no problem in 2012 series such as 3590. Naming is crucial, and is dependent on the original voice 'shell' used to create the custom voice. Most used is the standard American English voice for that, so the *.vpm voice needs to be named only English_American_.vpm [note the under-score positioning] replacing any current file of that name on the nuvi, and no other naming will work. A known exception to this is a common Borat voice which is based on English_British_.vpm and there are for sure other EN custom voices which will only work named other than English_American_.vpm but i'm not aware of any Governator/Terminator voice based on anything else.

All Garmin units refer to 'American English' in the Voice Language menu of the unit itself. The actual file name is English_American_.vpm in the unit's Voice folder. Similarly with other voices, eg. on-board menu shows 'Australian English-Karen', file name is English_Australian_Karen.vpm.

More importantly, have you got your custom voice working now?

Yes, I thought it would show up as English American on the unit, as that is what the file is named. If I had known that I wouldn't have started this thread. As they say knowledge is power...lol

Np with the above, much knowledge is gained accidentally and often much knowledge thus found is useful to someone else if shared. This might help others unsure of Garmin's voice naming usage so thread marked '[SOLVED]'.
