Found old nuvi 1490, tips to get this up and running?
Hi all,
Found my old Nuvi 1490 and would like to update it to the most recent maps/firmware etc as it is quite a few years old now and still has the original maps on it.
I've done a garmin webupdate but i don't see a map update available (pretty sure this doesn't have lifetime maps)
Below are some details i've gotten from the device:
nuvi 1490 i KP1 V5 LC 2GB PB
Software version 6.20
GPS: 4.30
Text: 3.60
Audio: 2.10
Bluetooth: 1.73
Detailed Maps: 2010 Whereis map data
Basemap: Worldwide Autoroute DEM Basemap, NR 5.00
What should i update and how?
I was looking at this thread for the newest Australian/New Zealand maps, will it work? : [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
I've got the files ready but have no idea what to do.
I've read some guides and stickies but there's so much information that i have no idea where to start
Enable hidden files in Windows to see .System in pc. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
I don't know wich files have you got, but all the infos, depending on what you have downloaded are here [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
Scroll and find the one you need: gmap, img etc. You can send the needed map to device with BaseCamp&Mapinstall or put the img directly in Nuvi.
i have:
- downloaded the australia 2015.10 gmap
- unlocked it using "unlock mapsource" and moved to C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps
- installed basecamp
- loaded the 2015.10 map file from the Maps menu in basecamp
- clicked Maps > Install Map to device
however once it has been installed, in the devices section in basecamp, it still says i only have the 2012.2 version installed which is what the device came with.
Trying to install and customize again, shows the 2015.1 map being installed as well as the 2012.2 version.
I can untick the 2015.1 but i can't untick the 2012.2.
How can i make sure that the maps are running on the 2015 and not 2012?
