Default 12 volt Double Car Socket

My vehicle has only a single 12 volt cigarette lighter outlet, which is mainly used for powering my nuvi 52 when driving.

I now looking at getting a dash cam, for recording my (sometimes quite dangerous*) drives around Thailand.

This will also require access to 12 volt power, so the solution would seem to be a double socket, like this:

Has anyone done this, and/or does anyone have an opinion on whether the Garmin be getting enough power to keep it charging?

Have been using a simple, cheap, triple shocket for some time with nο problems, in order to charge a nuvi 3490, a Gopro camera and a Samsung SII.
Before you buy it make sure that it fits and there is no problem with the dashboard, shift lever or ashtray.
For this reason I bought one with a cable up to the triple socket.

Besides eBay, you can find a vast choice of car power splitters (and other gadgets!) at Deal Extreme. Cheap and including shipping world wide. Read the review of an item before ordering, so you can get a fair impression of what to expect.

That will work just fine on your 2 devices. It has no current limiting restrictions on the output ports.

The only time you might have an issue as you are concerned would be if you were looking at dual 5V USB ports coming out rather than the 12V. They are sometimes limited in various ways.

It is very important to read the reviews before buy from DX.com ... have bought some units of car chargers (some supposed made by Griffin) and they simply did not work!

An update - the unit I bought from DX is working correctly, powering both my nuvi GPS and MiVue dashcam.

I use a multitude of devices in my Toyota Troopy GPS, PDA with GPS and OZi Maps, Phone and now a Vid Camera "Troopy Cam" a Motor Bike helmet cam and have set it up with a 32GB micro SD and can record at 720P for 13hrs good for a days drive in country Australia. So I use at this moment 4 sources of 12V, I also have a dual Battery system that I also connect a further 3 Deep cycle batteries to so if you would like to know to right way to do these things let me know. That is running 3 Way Fridges and or compressor type like the Engels and Waeco types.
