Default Stuck with American English text and keyboard in nüvi 1440

As per topic title: I have a nüvi 1440 (FW 6.20, fully updated). I can choose from a wide variety of voice languages, but for text language and keyboard I am stuck with American English.
Yet, in the nüvi:\Text folder there is a similar wide variety of *.GLX files.
I also downloaded the latest keyboard update from here:

    Code:
Please Login or Register to see the links
and loaded it into the nüvi via WebUpdater. Still only American English keyboard available.
Also cleared NonVol. At next reboot I can choose any country as locale, but keyboard and text remain American English.

    Any suggestions?

Delete your folder text and keyboard and add this on your nuvi:

American English is on SW and it is not needed in any files on Nuvi. I can see on your screenshots what you do not have any menu text or keyboard files. WebUpdater probably not work because new version of needed files was loaded and deleted after install. Do as lolypop000 say and do back up in next time...

You've got the text, but no keyboards folder. One can't work without the other ... [like 'love and marriage' ].

Loly, as usual you saved the day again. Both keyboard and text language can now be selected again. Thank you!

I bought this nüvi 1440 second hand. The Keyboards folder was missing, so I guess that explains the absence of the keyboard selection.
Comparing the contents of your Text folder with the one I had in the nüvi, I see all the xx_YY.glx files were missing in the nüvi. How could that have happened?
Further, how come I still did not have any keyboard selection after I loaded the nuvi12xx_13xx_14xxKeyboards_320.rgn file into the nüvi?

    Edit:
I see Neil already answered my question before I could even post it!

I explained what previous owner delete files obviously. It is usually dealing to clear memory for free space. Otherwise the updater give you suggestion to load new version of text files for menu. prx - speed alert file and trf - traffic announce file.

About keyboard you are wrong! The first way, you must put nuvi12xx_13xx_14xxKeyboards_320.rgn to Updater or Webupdater icons and this program will do all for you. The second way is for developer, rename nuvi12xx_13xx_14xxKeyboards_320.rgn to D162200.zip, delete Garmin signature and only then copy to Nuvi. I had see you are never read forum threads at whole before do any things. Do you love a great deal of problem?

    @smokefree
You also are missing the Help and JPEG folders. The second doesn't matter a fig really but on-board help is handy sometimes. The attached file has all languages in Help, but i guess you may only want English & some EU files, so you can just remove what you don't want to save some space. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Same with voice, text and kb files but you'll need appropriate text and TTS voices if you're using the Oxford Language Guide.

Not that you really absolutely need them, but here are the rest of the files for your Garmin folder too [although i see your .System folder isn't showing, so maybe you've chosen to hide some stuff in Windows folder options]. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

PS: Please just ignore our resident Russian Bear, he's missing his winter hibernation. Generally doesn't seem to like Europeans much but is usually ok with ppl from DownUnder. If you tell him you're more Kiwi than Tulip Sniffer then he'll be fine ..... maybe

Just to add to his learned words of wisdom, another way the get the keyboard files from the .rgn is to open it with RGN_Tool and just select save to get the file pk_text.zip which can then be extracted to obtain the folder 'Keyboards' containing all the .kbd files.

I suspect you did not read post #1 "at whole" because you would have seen that I did load the keyboard file into the nüvi using WebUpdater.

Correct. Hidden files and folders are not shown by default. Here's a snapshot of the .System folder:

@Neil: what does the hidden .VolumeIcon.icns file in your download do?

I'm no Mac OS expert, i barely stumble thru with Windows. However I believe that's the custom drive icon shown when connected to a Mac. If it's already present, it should be visible in Windows if you set the radio button for 'Show hidden files, folders and drives' in Folder Options>View. I only mentioned it because as you've since confirmed you had 'Don't show etc' set, which i knew because .System wasn't showing in your earlier screenshot. Don't worry too much about it if you don't connect to a mac. None of the older units had it, but its been present since 2008 i think first in nuvi 765 and it's still in my 2013 3597.

BTW, that GUPDATE.GCD file is insanely small at 64KB. I would delete it because it should be ~16MB.

Done. Ran WebUpdater and only now I am offered a variety of language related files which weren't offered previously (proximity alerts, keyboards, help files, etc). Now also the GUPDATE.GCD file is 16,152 KB. Thanks for the suggestion.
