    Default A good price-performance ?

I am looking for a new nuvi GPS, just for my CAR, not top-of-the-line, but with usable features.

    - has to be thin (10 milimiters)
    - capable of split-screen
    - 4.5" or 5" good, crisp display
    - good, loud, speaker
    - good battery life - should I decide to walk with nuvi in hand
    - capable of rotating maps clockwise ou counter-clockwise
    - NO need for bluetooth ( I don't like the GPS taking over phone calls)
    - limetime Maps not a priority
    - traffic is OK to have

Looking at Garmin product pages, they seem to have a LOT of similar devices, like 1xxx series, 2xxx series, 3xxx series.
Looking at EBAY pages, it is even harder to separate the offers.

Can someone, with hands-on experience share ideas ?

    PS: My 3790T died.

If you are buying in the United States, I suggest the purchase of some 2012 series (34/35xx, 2xx5) or 2013 (2xx7, 3xx7) model. Buying refurbished you will have a good advantage in price. I just bought a 3597 in the US for $ 220. You get a 3590 for $ 180, a very attractive price. Forget models like the 1xxx and older, unless that you wishes to spend the minimum possible.

In my opinion stay with 3xxx series, after a nuvi 3790 device buying a 3490 or 3590 device will cover all the needs you described in your post and more with a reasonable price. After a 3xxx series device going to a 2xx5 or 2xx7 series device is a downgrade, these devices won't give you that feeling of quality or the features a 3xxx series device can give you. I wouldn't buy a 3597 either, doesn't have the pedestrian mode and is too big to carry around with you. It's a Navigonish device made for in car use only.

    Second Hand or Refurbished 3490

    OT
I think that the Li-Po battery damaged your 3790, Li-Po batteries are not exactly the same as Li-Ion Batteries. (Charge Faster @ Higher Current 3.7 Volts per Cell)
Maybe the Power Supply Circuit was overloaded momentarily by the stronger battery and caused enough damage for it to shut off.
I have verified that the correct battery for 3490/3790 and 1xxx is 3.7V Li-Ion Battery.

The best value is 1490, but only a series 3XXX will match with the condition of thin 10 millimeters.
With the 3XXX you gain a lot of features that...; in my opinion, are not useful. Where I live, I always use the free map because it's more complete and precise; some you should have in mind when you buy your new device, if you will really use the new features. Maybe, the best suggestion is the Schermann's...; but, the high resolution screen is to me the main reason to I bout my 3460, the dashboard customizable is other feature I really like, the same with their capacity of route or search address in the deactivated maps (this not occur with 2012 devices)! So, a 2013 device must be considered! There are many details that can make a difference in day-by-day.

    Best regards to all!

As noted by Pungent above, the first spec alone limits to 3700 or 3400 series. If you don't want BT, buy a 3750 and you can [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] but no ASR possible unless you add a mike. If you do want ASR buy a 3760 and upgrade the features, or just buy a 3790. Either way you don't need to enable BT in settings. Any 3700 can also convert to 3400 but be wary of GPS positional problems in some units due to their GPS module partial incompatibility with 3400 firmware.

I guess 4.5" screen is a typo and you mean 4.3".
