    help Garmin 3490 power issue

    I have one nuvi 3490 with this simptoms:

    - when connect to Pc nuvi won't turn on and also if i remove battery nuvi won't turn On

    - if i connect nuvi in car in holder and connect it to car power nuvi won't turn on but in speaker i can here every 2 second " tik, tik " sound but screen is blank no back light.

    - if i take full charged battery from nuvi 3790 and add it in nuvi 3490, nuvi turn on normaly and work like he must, but if i connect cable to nuvi, nuvi won't charge.

    So i think that something don't work on motherboard that regulate power from micro usb and from car holder conntact ( i clean contacts )

    Anybody know what chip is on board for power regulation?
    I will try to change it, but i don't know which chip is broken.

    Have you tried with external A/C power cord to plug into the wall and let it charge all night long? When the battery gets so low that it turns the unit off, simply plugging into a DC source (computer or car port) may not be enough to get the battery going.

    I add full charged battery in nuvi and then connect it to Pc and also on car charger and nuvi don't charge.
    Something is wrong with power supply circuit, but I don't know what chips are used there and where is located.

    @loly
    Look on pcb for small chips maybe 3 pin up to 8 pin
    Take number from chip with magnifying glass and google
    When you find a chip that's called regulator or battery management ic then you found him.
    It should be close to input power from mount or usb or maybe close to battery connector.
    Also look for surface mounted pico fuses (very small) maybe labeled f1 f2 etc.
    It's sad to lose a perfectly working 3490 for such a small fault.

    I've got a 3790 with identical symptoms [won't charge by any method, powers up with another battery]. I bought it cheap for spares mainly to get the screen. Original battery is ok and working now in another unit so i guess it's got the same problem as your 3490 Loly. I suppose the fact that they won't charge by either the powered mount or microUSB port is a sure indication of a board malfunction. But it looks like big-time micro-surgery to replace any component on those boards.

    @mallard2

    If your nuvi work on 12v power then you must buy new battery and all will work.

    I buy 3790 with broken screen and will try to use it for spare parts and repair 3490.

    Loly, do you mean you'll cannibalize the required components for the 3490 by unsweating them off the 3790 board? Why not just swap the screens if they're the same and convert the 3790 to 3490? You can always go back if faced with bad accuracy.

    @mallard2
    Loly is right, my battery was OK but yours is dead [open circuit]. You have a much easier fix.

    On nuvi 3790 and 3490 you have two board, i will try add from 3790 board with flash chip to 3490 but i will not change board with GPS chip, will see if all will work and what accuracy will be

    When i get 3790 with broken screen i will try different thing maybe also change power chip

    I will write report when i get it and also will post some photo.
