    Default Why is it that...

... GPS hardware is soooo dated? I mean look at today's phones and tablets... Beautiful high resolution/dpi displays, capacitive touchscreens, fast CPUs and GPUs... Everything that GPS devise is not.
I doubt is the is to keep low cost only. Am I missing something?

The cost is keyword! If you drive so many navi is more conveniently and reliably. And in this case navi will pay off.
I think it is good to have a knife, spoon, fork combined in one whole unit but I have a possibility to buy set of all items separately! I use my Nokia symbian smartphone only for phone calls and SMSs and I immensely happy what I make all what I want in a two click only. I tried a really many other devices before I obtained Nokia but when I lost my temper (oh my nervous business) I forgot a long chain of clicks for making call Also for navi - turn on and go on! And a pretty female voice never ask me for where I get address
Garmin, how much is 30 pieces of silver for Judas today? Were they worthy for crucifix of GPSPower?

I was talking strictly hardware, regardless software and features. The GPS devices are so damn slow in processioning data, same for graphics redrawing these ugly low resolution screens, TNT display panels etc.
They just feels cheap and dated...

It is all about software not hardware in the gps navigation world.
