I think this shoudn't stops us. Look at xda-developers forum. In its origin it is a hackery/piracy forum isn't it? It is making angry a lot of the big companies. But it became the leading mobile software development forum in the world and news room. Me I don't have any expectations. Just having fun.

One thing I'd like to see is some indication of the upcoming waypoint. At the moment, when using the trip planner the display shows me the miles to next waypoint and total miles to end of journey. If there are several waypoints it's down to me to try and remember the route I plotted, where I've passed and where next. Maybe have the info bar show the name of the waypoint? Possibly have the info bar rotating what it displays in the manner of a news ticker? IE safety camera info for 20 seconds, next road name for 20 seconds, next waypoint name for 20 seconds sort of thing.

When navigating using Nuvi 3490 it's not convenient to switch between the options displaying "Arrival Time, Distance, Time to Destination", etc., as it brings you to the menu screen where the right option should be selected & Save button needs to be pressed. That is quite distractive while driving, so it'd be more usable if pressing the button with current setting switched the current mode directly, i.e. "Arrival Time -> Distance -> Time to Destination" with immediate effect.

I think they will never admit, but the piracy makes then bigger!
If don’t have this possibility, the costumers can choice another fabricant to buy. And it’s simpler difficult a little the piracy to then explain this to the investors…; the same occurs to Microsoft, that make a vulnerable software but very easy to pirate, and make we use the original because we need the security actualizations. If is too difficult to use a piracy version, the Linux will prosper and become a new first choice; without these vulnerabilities and be not in focus of the hackers make this system can be more reliable…
Other example, I prefer the appearance of IGO; but the maps have a bad accuracy and only this make me prefer and recommend Garmin; as more people use IGO, the maps will be improved…

I suggest to Garmin returns to smartphone market, if they are in condition to offer a really top GPS.
A smartphone that allow Bluetooth connection to PC and the freehand of my car.
Custom gathering priority of the various views; for example, if the active lane guidance and junction view is available, we can choose that the active lane guidance is exhibited when the both are available, without interference in the lane assist.
And the VoiceStudio allow speech streets.

There is a serious design flaw in the Nuvi 1450/1490/50LM that causes the USB charger port to lift off the circuit board. It is positioned so that it sits at a right angle to the PCB and the tension from the USB charger cord in normal use causes many of these USB ports to lift off and pull traces with it. Reflowing is not easily done because of soldered shielding over much of the PCB wiring. And what is up with all of the Nuvi 50LM power buttons breaking off the case chassis? Is this the future of Garmin? Take a 1450, strip it down, remove features, keep the screen, and screw it into an assembly that feels exceedingly light and cheap.

I have a 1490 with that problem. Not worth trying to fix it as you said, and will only be good for parts eventually. Unless the data or charger lead is taped to the back of the unit it only works intermittently.

So you're from Kansas are you Toto ... errhh, i mean Redrock3? Not from Olathe and work on the corner of 151 Street and Ridgeview Road, by any chance?

Actually, I am not from Kansas, I just mistakenly pushed the wrong state when I entered sig data. That does get one noticed on Garmin forums LOL. I have an ex-military electronics tech do my reflowing. I get a price break but it is still not cost effective to fix these ill-designed ports. I get boxes of them in. This is one area where Tomtom got it right, put the port on the bottom. The other serious Garmin flaw is the scads of units bricked in their update process. The user installs an update and a low battery fails to complete the install, and voila, boot loop and eBay in that order. That takes about 30 seconds to fix and it's a shame tech support cannot walk the user through that, or include a simple instruction sheet. Ultimately, I guess the goal is to sell a new one rather than revive an older one.
