I'm supporter of simplification idea. Especially for device like car navigation, where you can't watch it all the time but you only get a glimpses of current situation. I prefer map over quasi real rendering, icon over 3D building, LA over JCV.
Garmin goes other way, it drops simplification for marketing show. It makes devices which looks funny when you toy with them in a shop but adds features, which can be annoying in a real use. And in many cases these features are handicapped, like trips without VIA or single-line ALG.
What I like in nuvis is that you can remove most of gimmicks. If you find JCV distracting, you can remove its file. If you notice, that FastRouting damages routing in your county, you can remove its file. If traffictrends makes route calculation unreliable, you can disable it. If DEM shading makes rendering of map too slow, you can delete it. I hope that this nice feature of nuvi remains in new models and user will be able to disable ALG too.
I prefer portrait mode. I wonder how does this new show look in portrait mode?
