I think it's essential to work out what features you want before you buy. Via points and trip planner were more important features than a 5" display, so when I upgraded recently I got one to suit my needs featurewise, and the compromise to keep the price down was smaller screen. You can't really blame Garmin for having a large range of products and services. I guess they see a market for a large screen device that's very simple in operation with few additional features.

"Essential" is Garmin's term for this series of devices. It means this devices have only the main simple features. It is not so far from truth. For such users is very friendly have only three variant in menu:

    Add as a Via Point
    Set as a Via Point
    Set as a New Destination

But usually such users did not use even one ViaPoint.

Also at last Garmin software the Trip Planner is hardly linked with Via Point management. Any manipulations with Via Point in last Garmin device is cause for opening of Trip Planner. But we can see Trip Planner: no in additional field at specification of device on Garmin site! Want more Via Point - buy the Prestige series or Advanced series.

    Code:

and see Series in left column. Lets you focus mouse on series name and you will see a short review. It is not possible to describe all the various the nuances in pair of word. In any case if you are disappointed buying you have a right to replace it. Especially it is granted if the seller is misled you.

P.S.2 My client ordered a party of printer without WiFi. Official distributor try to force him to buy printers with WiFi for bigger price. The client refused this variant. Distributor said that is no problem. What is amazing in this story. All printer was with WiFi pin-out but without special chip and with cutted by usual cutting-out knife a part of plate
