Yes with TTS Voice Editor you can only change the text, not the voice itself. I once tried both french and spanish voices with english text and both the results were totally incomprehensible. You need to have the 'voice engine' which matches the language for it to work, or at least have a very closely related language. For instance, perhaps spanish voice with portuguese text might be understandable although probably extremely annoying to a native portuguese speaker.

Garmin uses the services of Nuance Communications, Inc (former Scansoft)

    http://www.nuance.com/

Sorry, I do not know what kind of tool is used to compile...

    I found without problem:

    http://www.nuance.com/for-business/by-solution/customer-service-solutions/solutions-services/inbound-solutions/self-service-automation/vocalizer/index.htm

There are even link to list of new small TTS voice for Garmin (Nuvi30,40,50 and other) on this page:
    [hide]http://www.nuance.com/ucmprod/groups/enterprise/@web-enus/documents/collateral/nc_024317.pdf[/hide]

Old TTS version was compiled with another soft from Scansoft. But Nuance is former Scansoft!

I am also interested in this topic. Waitning for your comments and experience Loly! BTW isn't Nuance only a developer? I mean the vpm format is garmins' proprietary format so should be and the compiler which is making it. The source is from Nuance but the software is garminzzz.
