We should not turn this thread into an 'how-to-do' type tutorial. There are existing tuts that i referred you to in my last post, and there is very good guidance available under the Help tab in BC. However, yes the install maps under tools option will not work if no device is connected. You can also do this: connect your device or memory card, have the correct map selected in the RH pane in BC, right-click the device or card in the LH pane and select the Install Maps etc option, that will invoke MapInstall and you can then select the whole or parts of the map to transfer the data.
