    bulb Nuvi 3790T incorrect behavior

I just purchased my nuvi 3790T in the United States and got it into Brasil.

Then I have the CN North America (original) map in the internal memory and 3 brazilian maps into .MAP folder onto the microSD card.

These are packed as ONE gmapsupp.img file. The GPS shows them as three separated maps anyway (City Navigator, Autoguia, Tracksource).

    The first problem is that:
When I turn on the 3790, all 3 maps are selected.
Then I go to the proper screen and de-select 2 of them, leaving just one.
After a few minutes ( 15 - 20 ) the GPS shows a monocolor background. I check there are NO maps selected.
Or sometimes all 3 are selected again.

    I am guessing a firmware problem ?

    The second problem is that:
When approaching a turn, the GPS says: turn right in 100 meters
It DOES NOT say: turn rigth in 100 meters on Yellow Avenue

Part of the message is missing.

Does anyone has seen this ?

Thanks for any help guys !

Have you loaded the 3 Brazil maps as one gmapsupp.img for any particular reason? Makes sense with an older unit like a 255w where you may be used to doing that, and where until recent firmware updates you needed to have only one image as gmapsupp in the sd's Garmin folder, but makes no sense with a modern unit like 3790. I suggest remove the combined map image from the sd's Map folder [NOTE: Map NOT .MAP] and reload them in there as 3 separate image files, named anything convenient eg: CNNT_Brazil.image, Autoguia_Brazil.img, Tracksource_Brazil.img or whatever you want as long as it ends in .img. If your problem is because of a badly compiled gmapsupp, this will overcome it. Have a look at these threads: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] (in particular Post #18) and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] This one might interest you too: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Probably not, unless you have done a recent fw update in which case re-load it.

    The second problem is that:
When approaching a turn, the GPS says: turn right in 100 meters
It DOES NOT say: turn rigth in 100 meters on Yellow Avenue............
If you do not have a TTS (Text To Speech) voice selected then that is the correct prompt.

Yes, it's a new firmware "feature-problem" for 37xx (and with all firmwares for 34xx-35xx)
3790 no longer allows to check seperatelly any maps that are in a "mapset" like yours (3 maps in 1 file).
You must check ALL of them or NONE of them.
This is a problem since some companies produce a map (1 file) which inside has 2 sub-maps.
For example a Topo map which inside has 1 "solid" map with all the info and one "transparent" with only the land contours.

If you have your 3 maps in seperate files, just copy the 3 of them (using any names you like but with extension .img) on your microSDcard.
If you only have them as 1 file, then you have to install [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
In gmaptool "OPTIONS" write the location of cGPSmapper.exe
Load your 1 file on gmaptool, choose "SPLIT", choose "CREATE:mapsets by FID", press "SPLIT ALL" and you will have your 1 file splitted in 3 files.

With all new Garmin devices you don't need to use such mapset files (2in1, 3in1, 4in1 etc), because you can write as many seperate map files as you like in MAP folder (on internal memory or microSDcard)

If you don't have any Brazilian TTS voice on 3790, use Garmin's [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] program and proceed to "additional updates" and check and download "Brazilian-Portuguese Raquel TTS" voice.

Thanks to Neil and x-trail !

I think the problem is understood and I will try to solve now.

    Just for the record:

The gmapsupp.img is the same used that I used on the 255W, thus the file itself is OK.

I will come back with the results, to make the post complete.

Also on 24x5/25x5. Not a problem if you have different regions/country's in 1 mapset, but if you have different maps for the same region you have to make separate files.

What is confusion is that you can unselect one map in the menu, but when you return in the map menu all the maps in the mapset are "off".

So far I have been able to SPLIT the maps, load them to the GPS SD card end download and install Brazilian Raquel voice.

Will go to a road test.

    Thanks all !

Thanks for the responses so far.

I went to a road test.

The MAP problem is solved after splitting the gmapsupp into the 3 original brazilian maps.

I updated also the "Brazilian raquel TTS" voice.

No good. The GPS still DOES NOT say the street name; just "turn right in 300 meters".

What I noticed is that (when selecting voices) some voices have a mark, in small letters, "says street names". The brazilian-raquel does not.

Has anyone gone thru this ?

    Thanks !

Raquel is a TTS voice and should work.
Have you tried Madalena just to test if your Nuvi is processing TTS correctly?
Always get your voices using Webupdater.
Delete it from your voice folder and reboot nuvi. (backup first)
Connect to webupdater and it will be available for download.

I've found that sometimes after a firmware update there can be issues, try updating again using same update option (unless there's been a new one since!)

Do you have Portuguese set as your text language? I think if you still have English chosen it may not give TTS in another language.
