Actually BaseCamp can't load maps to device. It calls external program MapInstall. You can ran MapInstall directly, in version 4 it has some advantages over Mapsource, for example it supports multiple names for img.

Either MS or BC can load an image file of all or part of a map from a gmap folder. Please search for this kind of basic info rather than posting a request. It's rather easy to find.

True, technically, BC invokes MapInstall to install maps. It does happen automatically and seamlessly when you have the programs installed correctly so from a practical point of view to a new user, BC installs the image (using MI). Didn't really want to turn what was a essentially a basic question into a mini-tut though, but thanks for setting the record straight Kanopus.
