    Default USB Car Power Supply

    My car have a USB port. Is it possible to that use that usb port as a power source for extrex vista hcx using USB cable bundled with my gps?

    I tried with nuvi 1300 and it did not work.
    With the Standard Cable the Nuvi went into Mass Storage Mode.
    With Specially made up cable see below.
    The USB port in the car was too weak. Solution Fitted a 12V Switched Socket under the Dash to plug in Nuvi Power supply. Hidden and out of the way.

    It's working and this is the work around.

    The USB car outlet will automatically detects, if the connected device have a compatible audio file (mp3, etc.). If it's present, it will automatically play and if it's not, it will shut off.

    So, here's the solution.

    Copy your favorite MP3 song to your GPS extended card then connect your device to your USB car power supply.

    Tested on my Garmin etrex Vista HCX with 2GB kingston Micro SD connected on Hyundai Tucson 2011 USB Car Power supply.
