Default need some hints with garmin

    Hi there!

I use a Garmin Nuvi 1410 for which I need two hints:

1- How to make the gps to calculate a route to the center of a city (that I am not familiar with)?
2- How to make the gps to search for alternate route in case the way I am on is blocked?

    Thank´s

    1. When you go to input an address, do not enter the house number or street and the GPS will pull up a list of streets. Select one and the GPS will route you there. It's not perfect since it likely will not get you to the center of a city, but it should get you reasonably close.

    2. Go to the main menu while in the route and press the Detour button that appears next to the stop button. This will tell the GPS to generate a new route that should avoid the obstruction by going around the road.

    Other variants:

    1. For navigation to center of the city - choose in Find menu Towns (not Address). It is simple way in one step!
Only this way a really work if in small village is no address searching by the way.
One exclusion I found - in some countries do not possible find some villages by input the name in town field of Address or of Towns. I was found it in searching by Address->In All Town and when spelling villages name in street field. For example, Vartius in Finland. It is very interesting what I find this small village in its place but as street for town at 40 kilometers from it. I asked inhabitants why it is. They answered that they choosed town mentioned above as its reliable municipality many year ago

    2. If you have information about points for alternate route you may find and choose it in Find menu then and appoint its as via points. Only choose point simply and Nuvi ask you about mission: or as ending point or as via point.

OK, fine, thank you for the help.
    One more quastion, please:
How can I avoid the auto-complete function in cases when I am typing a name of a location and the gps jumps to a city with the same first letters?
Exanple: I attempt to type Bratislava and it jumps to Brarola.

Are you sure you chose Slovakia as the country and not Italy?

Garmin performs the auto-complete function by all object on active maps plus basemap and should not jumps to the certain location if there are several variant!
May be you do not type letter "t" after "Bra" and thus Nuvi offer you the last found variant as Brarola?

It jumps to Brarola so fast that I have no time to type the "t". Then I must click the icon "Back" and keep typing.

I never meet such rate of fire from Nuvi. Usually Nuvi do not have such high-velocity as I am poking to it screen.
