I wish to update to the latest UK and Europe maps on my Nuvi 660 and have found City Navigator 2012.20 on other links in the forum but need to know if a new basemap (gmapbmap.img) should be installed at the same time and which is the latest version and download link? Mine is the original supplied with file size 6.44 MB (6,762,496 bytes) but don't know how to find which version it is so any info would be useful.
You can replace the basemap if you want to, but you really don't need to. Basemaps are a holdover from the days when you only had enough memory in the unit to load your starting city and ending city. The unit would route you from one city to the other by relying on the basemap for the connecting road. With current units, most users don't bother updating the basemap. The detail maps are more important.

You can use [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to find the details of your current basemap. It supports drag & drop to the Files tab and then choose details button.
The basemap is showed when zoomed out and detail maps just kicks in at closer zoom levels.
The smallest WorldWide (non routable) basemap I have is 10 MiB (10,493,952 bytes). Guess that you have a regional one for UK since the one you have is smaller in size.
Example with gMapTool details:
There's a collection of basemaps in the map index at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].
I would choose the [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] for nüvi 660. If you want the latest and greatest WW DEM basemap instead you can try [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. DEM (Digital Elevation Model) would show 3D simulation with shadowed topographic contours for supported models.
