Software to verify if a map is locked or unlocked?

    Hi,

I'm new here to the forum. I have read a lot so I am trying to keep the usual questions out of the way. However... I have an important trip on Saturday morning and I am needing to get the "VUS030R" Map loaded to my GPSMAP 4210 Garming GPS Unit. I already downloaded the IMG File to my PC (963MB). However, I have read that the file is either locked or unlocked. By my understanding, locked meant that I had to use some sort of keygen and generate a .unl file to get the map working on my gps unit. And the unlocked meant that I simply loaded it to my SD Card and DONE.

However, I have a small handicap and the thing is that the boat is located 4 hours from where I am right now and I will probably not have any internet connection where the boat is, so I have no way of getting any serial numbers or any type of information from the GPS itself, so having a LOCKED version is worthless at this point. However... I found the software Fast IMG Unlocker and I downloaded version 2.1 (if I recall correctly). I saved a clean copy of the file in a separate folder as a backup solution in case anything went wrong with the unlocker.

Apparently all went well. However... now I am stuck with the doubt if the file is really unlocked and if it would work properly on my GPSMAP 4210 Garmin Unit. I also read a software called "gmaptool". I downloaded it as well. I analyzed both files (The Unlocked one from Fast IMG Unlocker and the Original Clean Version that I saved in a separate folder as a backup). I went ahead and clicked on "details" for both files.

Here was the result for the file that Fast IMG Unlocker "unlocked": (just a small part of the report)

From what I could see, the word "locked" does not appear anywhere in the "details" report from gmaptool in the file that I unlocked from Fast IMG Unlocker. However, since I am new to this I have no idea if my conclusions are in fact true. Here is what I am needing:

    1. Someone to confirm is the steps that I did are the correct ones to have the map unlocked.
    2. Are my conclusions related to the gmaptool correct? (that the file was unlocked?)If not, what software is there out there that I can use to confirm if a map is really locked or unlocked?
    3. Someone to confirm what should be the filename of the map and where should it be located in the SD Card (e.g. E:/Garmin/filename.img) (Is "Garmin" the right folder name or can it be any folder name?)

Sorry for the long thread but I felt that if I can provide as much details as possible you will be able to help me more.

    Thanks in Advance!

    1) The Bc is correctly unlocked
    2) same reply, Gmaptool is ok for your needs
    3) map named gmappsup.img in a Garmin folder in sd is ok, no other possibility (remember:just one img per sd)
It's great to have users who are able to post questions about their problems like you, sometimes is hard to help them coz of lack of details Mostly must guess
    have a nice boat trip

ps: you can see your map in Homeport : insert the sd in your pc and run Homeport, it will see it
