What is the recent testing results. I am also face the same problem that my GPS freezes when I insert the microSD into the slot. Can this be avoided if I use a class 10 microSD card?

The problem above is given as said by the overlapping maps.
Cant have 2 or more routable maps covering the same regions on gps.
Gps can freeze if there are problems with data written into it.
Although any brand of SD or microSD card should work without any problems, Garmin recommends using SanDisk or Kingston brand cards. Most SD and microSD cards work with out any issues however Ultra, High Speed (such as 133x or faster), or SD and microSD cards specifically used for high end or professional electronics might not work.

I have had very bad experiences with chkdsk and my maps. Fat32 does have an individual file size limitation of 2GB. When chkdsk.exe is run it will see an error and break the file down to under 2GB. This makes the over 2gb map image useless. The copy I made of my 8GB SDHC card with the latest Europe maps, JCV's, Topos etc is useless. The ability to back up my SDHC cards is critical as they are very time consuming or impossible to reconstruct in the future. Track data, trip favorites, etc are easily list forever. I have all my maps saved on an external drive which is formatted as Fat32 and had been deleting the smaller RAR folders as I thought they were passe. If I convert the file format to NTSC that may correct the file size limit, but my 2TB of data may not be safe. NTSC drives are also a major PITA to recover if there is a failure.

FAT32 has a file limitation size of 4GiB minus 1 byte, imposed by Windows. Some older Garmin devices limited the *.img file size to 2GB but this has been raised to 4GB by later firmware revisions in many cases.
