    Hello...

I jsut managed to install 2.70 SG/MY firmware to my 255w EU, S board rev. 6 2GB following the procedure.

In the process I did an unnecessary mistake: I converted it to a 2w and the HWID changed from 827 to 930

However the firmware installed successfully... and i can report a couple of bugs:

-Parts of the main interface are not translated and still showed in english (eg. the travel summary appearing on the left when you examinate the route step by step).

-JCV doesn't work at all with my map set (city navigator europe NT 2013.30) - i am sure the files are correct, because in my others jcv-enabled garmin units, 1250 and 1440 they work like charms.

    Now the poin is.

Whatever firmware I flash into the device, the device in the info tab and in the GarminDevice.xml shows up as a 2w

Can we look for a solution to revert back from 2w to 255w?

Googling the web for infos stated that "it is not possible" but if i'd know how that .rgn file changed the hwid from 827 to 930 i am sure i can compile a ".rgn" file that changes the HWID once again form 930 to 827. There is no "efuse" or similar on these units, bootloaders and rom can be rewritten in any moment,

I saw that some members of this forum are expert at coding and in electronics, can we please work into making a file that restore the unit's ROM to it's original state?

    Thatnks Alot.

You've flashed the unit with full SG fw to Asian HWID of 0930 as you would be aware. Fortunately you don't have an S4 board or you would now have the 'white screen of death' and a unit only good for parts, irrecoverably bricked.

Flash the full US/EU 0827 fw as out.rgn and the unit should return to original. Hard reset it before and after the flash.

PS: Don't forget to remove or rename the asian voice and text files before flashing.

Hi, I know this is a really old thread but I got a hold of an old nuvi 265W unit from garage sale and would like to get JCV on it. It's v3 board with hwid 0827.
Is the instruction still good for trying this out on my unit?
Any known issues with upgrading to more recent software versions?
Lastly, I see in thread that I'll need to downgrade to v5.70 first so does anyone have a download location for that old FW?
    Thanks!

You'll have problems with the Western voice files using the SG firmware. It's best not to do that conversion as the problems far outweigh the 'eye-candy' benefit of JCV. You'd be better off (and safer) to convert it to nuvi 465T ("Truckie's Nuvi") which will give you lane assist in the top LH corner while navigating:
    cf lg
All the 2x5W files are fully compatible with 465T.

Thanks Butter for that guidance and will not flash to JCV SG version. I'll have to go research the truckie's nuvi conversion unless you happen to links to those posts.

I don't think there's a tut posted but if you follow the process in the SG thread it's quite the same. Don't do a full conversion first off, keep the boot.bin and HWID 0827 of 2x5W to see how it goes. If the hybrid conversion works properly then you can safely do a full conversion. If you want help making a flash kit let me know, i have the two firmwares available.

Yes, any assistance with flash kit will be needed so I don't brick my unit. Also, do you have link to the "SG" thread so I can start reading thru the steps?

The "SG" thread is this one, but there's no need to follow any directions in initial post now as i'll give you updated directions with the flashing files. I'm making them and uploading soon so standby. I'll post again when all is ready.

    @aiiir
Here's all you need to change your HWID 0827 nuvi 265W to nuvi 465T using hybrid firmware. If it's successful then you can flash full HWID 0943 and below i've also included a 'how to' and files for that, as well as the same for returning to original 265W. Click the show button to proceed:
    Spoiler: Click:

BEFORE STARTING: Check you have [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] loaded to your computer and remove any GUPDATE.GCD from the nuvi. That file may not be there but if it is it'll flash the device back to 2x5W on next boot.

    Safety Precautions!
    1. Both BEFORE and immediately AFTER firmware flashing you should hard reset the device. Back up your GPI folder it you wish to restore favorites later. Hold the lower RH corner of the screen, power on and follow the prompts. Do that before and after EACH time you do this kind of firmware conversion.
    2. Before you attempt the conversion make a copy of your device's NonVol region which can help in the future to restore it should it become stubbornly bricked (this NV backup isn't a firmware flash so no need to hard reset this time). Follow this:
    • Download [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    • Extract the RAR file to a clean SD card, a folder "Garmin" will be placed in the root of the card.
    • Ensure the device is fully OFF, not just in standby. Insert the card and power the nuvi on by connecting it to a 5V power scource (NOT a computer USB with a data cable), the vehicle charger is fine.
    • "Loader" should appear on the screen when the device powers up. Wait for it to finish the dump of region 41 which is indicated by the normal boot process finishing.
    • Remove the card and check that there's a new file next to the Garmin folder named "41.bin". Keep that files saved for the life of the device.

Now for the hybrid flash to 465T:
    • Download [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    • Extract the RAR file to somewhere convenient, your desktop will do. You'll see a folder named "Flash_Kit_0827_Hybrid_RGN".
    • Open the folder and drag 082701000420.rgn onto Updater.exe which will open a GUI. Select the radio button next to "USB Device" and leave the GUI visible.
    • Connect a 'known-good' miniUSB cable directly to a REAR USB2 port of your PC (Don't use a hub, a front port or a USB3 port).
    • Ensure the nuvi is fully OFF, not just in standby. Hold the top LH corner of the screen firmly and plug the miniUSB plug into the nuvi's socket which will power it on and initiate preboot mode.
    • Watch the window adjacent to 'USB Device' on Updater's GUI and immediately you see the device details appear in the window click 'OK' or hit the Enter key on your PC's keyboard. Accept any prompt to load lower version of fw.
    • Keep holding the screen firmly until the flash finishes or at least until Loader/Software Loading shows on the device screen.
    • When Updater reports the flash was successful, disconnect the nuvi from PC and let it boot. You should see 'nuvi 465' on the splash screen and now have truck features as well as Lane Assist available.

If you're happy with the new device features and it all functions properly:
It can be left as a hybrid device or it can be fully converted to 465T with HWID 0943 by flashing full firmware in preboot similarly as above, download [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and drag "out.rgn" onto updater.exe then proceed as before.

If you wish to return to nuvi 265W, download [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and extract then flash it same as above.

Warning and Disclaimer: Any member assumes all risk should you proceed with this completely or any part of it. All flashing of this nature carries some risk. In this case it's shown anecdotally to be minimal (or nil in my case) however there have been isolated reports of the flash failing, even some of bricked devices. That may be due more to inexperience in making and using the files or even (brrr!) force-flashing nuvi 465T's full fw or hybrid 0827/0943 fw to a nuvi 2x5W with HWID 1091 (MediaTec chip device) which would likely irreversibly hard-brick it. Personally, I've flashed dozens of 0872 devices to nuvi 465T as both hybrid and full conversions and also back to 0827 without a single incident. The actual files posted here have been tested on a 0827 265W successfully to nuvi 465T as hybrid, full and then back to 265W 0827.

Note: This works with any nuvi 2x5W device with HWID 0827 including the "2nd Generation" nuvi 2x0 devices with 0827 HWID sold in the northern summer of 2009. Devices without BT hardware will off course still not have that function as 465T. Junior models may need to have the 465T Logo flashed as well, in particular that is essential for the 2x0 devices. That's not necessary for 255W and 265W which operate perfectly as 465T with their original logo data in region 16.
