    Default Dnx995s

I've been using Kenwood units for years, thanks to the unlocked garmin maps. However, I got this unit recently, and it came installed with 2018.0 maps. I did what i'm used to doing, putting an unlocked image file on the SD card in Garmin/map , but it didn't work this time. When I check to see installed maps, it just shows me a spinning circle, and if I go to map view the whole thing is blank. Searching shows that newer kenwood units may have blocked this method.

I saw in another thread, using gamin express to send the same map files to the SDcard, then replace the map img. I tried that, and when I insert the SD card it just tells me "loading map" only for 3 seconds but when I check on the unit, it still tells me it's using the 2018.0 map. I'm not sure if it's actually using the newer one and just displaying the old version or not.

    Any other suggestions?

The current installed map is "US & Canada 2018.0", I'm attempting to install "City Navigator North America NT 2020.20"

If I use an openstreet map, it Does show up. I tried using gmaptool to change the FID and PID of the unlocked garmin map to match the openstreetmap settings, but it still didn't show up. Any other suggestions?

    Give this a try:
Put the unlocked .img on the SD card in folder Garmin/ instead of folder Garmin/Map/
2nd option put the unlocked img on SD card in folder Map/

    I've tried both in Garmin\ and Garmin\Map
If I put it in \Map\ and go to view my maps, it just shows a spinning circle forever. If I actually try to look at roads the whole screen is blank.

Are you sure your .img file is not corrupted ?
What if you put another .img in \Map\ on sd card

I've tried the openstreetmap img, and it loaded fine. I tried multiple unlocked garmin maps, even from 2019 just to make sure it's not a corrupted file and they all have the same result, if placed in Garmin\ it just says "loading maps" for 2 seconds, but doesn't show up as an option to choose. If I put it in Garmin\Map\ it shows a spinning circle forever, until I reboot the headunit, but it still doesn't show up as an option.

The stock files that get loaded to my SD card from garmin express include a .unl and .gma file. So I assume the unit is checking for these files before it will load a map. I tried including my stock files, and blank ones as some users have, but it still didn't work.

    Hello,

I have the same issue with "cracked" unlocked maps available here and on other forums.
There is no cure so far, like for standalone Garmin units, as the firmware is for both headunit and GPS part of said unit and cannot be patched that easily to remove this extra layer of protection.

However, loading all the extra files from the same map release works without issues, if your hardware can handle it - for example, updating maps through Garmin Express app would not download JCV files, but after putting them on an SD card manually I have junction view during navigation, etc.
