help Kenwood DNX-4210BT 2din car stereo

    Hello,
i am expecting my 2din car stereo, a Kenwood DNX-4210BT next week.

this has got a built-in garmin gps with europe map in it. my intention is to bring this home to philippines and install it in my car so that means europe map will be totally useless as i would just be driving within the philippines. my question is how should i install the philippine map in it when there is no sd card slot in the system. the only way that can input or upload a file that i know is the cd/dvd drive and the usb connection (i think it is only standard usb and not the mini usb, basing on the back picture of the unit). can map installation be done thru cd or usb? is there anyway or better yet which way can i connect this unit to my PC so i can see the Garmin folder and add philippine map in it? your inputs will be highly appreciated.

    thanks

I can't be sure about your unit but what usually works with Kenwoods is to connect it to your pc via rear (mini ?) usb slot so you can see it as an external storage device. This way you can access Garmin files but what you need to do first is to install Garmin's USB Drivers

Before you do anything make a full backup of Kenwood's internal memory including hidden and operating system protected files, better safe than sorry. You can change the settings in Windows to make those files visible under Folders menu.

thanks ellinas for the reply. the link below is the picture of the back of the unit itself. it doesn't look like it has a mini usb socket on it for pc connection like in the nuvis. that is my concern basically. the only thing i am sure of is that there is the standard usb socket hanging on the side if you could look at the same picture. well i am pretty sure that can read audio and video files to be played by the system. only question is, could it be used to browse garmin files as well? i am still waiting for my unit to come this week. the reason i ask about this so soon is so that i can plan right away how to go about dissecting and turning the unit to work and behave like a nuvi gps..... yes i would surely backup all the files in the unit as soon as i get a clear view of what to do and how to go about doing it. anymore inputs and suggestions are indeed very welcome.

your an angel catymag. got some kind of information on the link that you gave me. at least, there's a way and that there is a workaround somehow. post #10 is where the workaround is. indeed, it requires some dissecting to do on the unit but i guess it is doable. only downside is, i will have to loose the warranty if i open it up and modify it myself. i just need to read and re-read the post and keep in mind all the important things while i wait for my unit to come. some things i don't understand so well as the google translate is not that accurate at the german translation specially when copying the files on the partitioned sd card and turning the other one as primary so as to show the hidden files. that worries me much as things can go the wrong way. worth noting on the post that he used a Memory Card Extender Connector Linker he bought @ebay. that means he can always change the memory card or update it without opening the unit again the same way as he started. i think that is cool.
