Question Any advantage in GPS software these days regarding maps?

I remember when I was dabbling for the first time in GPS maps for my car back in 2010 that certain software was better for each country or continent because of the availability of better maps. For example I remember hearing things like Garmin (or was it TomTom) was better in the US, iGO was the best in Europe, etc. The reason given was always because the maps available for those programs was better in their respective regions.

These days I've noticed that HERE (which I think used to be Navitec) and TomTom both publish maps for iGO. So these days you should choose your GPS software simply because of its UI/features or are the maps available still a big consideration. Also were these rumours about better maps in the past ever true?

    Best regards

Your question cannot be characterized as new. It has been constantly repeated for a couple of decades in one form or another
Differences between the providers have always existed, sometimes more and sometimes less expressed

Many questions become very arduous, a lot of time chewed deja vu...Since we have lost all the year of work and effort, many people have no will to answer the same questions again. Me neither. Use a search, please.
