Default Converting track logs to Garmin IMG maps?

Can someone suggest to me the best way to convert track logs into Garmin IMG maps? Should I be using CGPSMapper? I have downloaded that (Routable from this site) and am familiar with command line tools, but I don't know how to make track logs into something compatible with CGPSMapper? Any suggestions on how to do it or a link to a tutorial? Thanks.

I remember I found a tool in the MSM forums about easy creation of IMG maps from GPX using cgpsmapper. Here it is - GPX2IMG:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

If you have got used to cgpsmapper go and used it. But if you ask me the easiest way is with through this software:
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Read the manual. If you have any problems feel free to share them in this topic.

Thank you for the suggestions. I have been trying MPC and have created a custom map with the sample files. It works good, but I don't have any .shp files. What software should I be using to combine my GPX track files into .shp files for use in MPC? Global Mapper?

Yes, the easiest way IMHO. Don't forget to put the correct MPC attribute information for the line. That is all.

I've managed to convert some tracks and make them into a custom map, but I can't figure out why the feature type is always a generic black line in MapSource. I import a couple of GPX tracks into GlobalMapper. I then change the feature type to experiment, for example Stream, Major Highway, Railroad etc. I export the shapefile and create a custom map out of it but when I view it in MapSource it shows only a thin black line for each track. I've been reading the Global Mapper manual but apparently I'm missing something. Any idea why the feature types won't stick?

You should put for the line - type, width, color etc as attribute infos. before you compile them with the MPC. To specify how you want the line to appear in MS and units. All attributes are written in the manual of the MPC. You shouldn't use those of Global Mapper. They have no usage in MPC. Just ignore them. Unfortunately, on the PC I am now I don't have MPC. Here my suggestion - see the samples in the folder Samples in the program folder. They are very helpful. If you can't manage in the next post I will try to attach a sample line.

    Cheers,

I've looked all over, but I don't see where to change the attributes? A sample would definitely be helpful.

I suppose you are using Global Mapper isn't it? Simply when you open the map files in Global mapper click over the poi, line or area and it will appear a window where it is written the attribute information. I see in GM they are written as Attribute names and Attribute values If not they should be written. Here one simple example map:

[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] - shapes+image

Look at the attributes for the lines, pois or areas: NAME - ..., GRMN_TYPE..., PHONE...and next to them it can be seen the value corresponding to the name, type, phone number etc. Every attribute and its meaning is explained in "Features Types" in the manual. That is all.

    Edited...
