    Question Looking for old Garmin Astro 220 firmware 3.50, 3.60

    Looking for old Garmin Astro 220 firmware 3.50, 3.60 or even older.
    Please upload it or pm me.

    I don't need the latest 3.70 version (I already have it).

    Thank you,

    Well, I've made the v3.50 firmware for Astro 220 using this post.
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    I added the English translation too.

    I'm afraid to flash it in my Astro 220 so I found another Astro 220 with the version 3.50 installed.
    So I tried to extract the "fw_all.bin" from the second device using this post
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
    and posts 33,34 and 35 from here
    [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

    but nothing happens ... no region dump file created (region 0E).
    Any idea why ?

    Dear friends I need some help here.
    My Garmin Astro 220 has the latest firmware version 3.70
    1. I flashed (with Updater.exe_V2.8.0.0) the modified 3.50 firmware to my astro and I had a "software missing" message. The only modification is to replace the French language block with the English one from version 3.70 starting from the Astro220_3.52FR+EU_basemap_by_PouchX firmware.
    The updater has terminated successfully.
    2. When I flashed the 3.70 again the Updater reads version 3.60 from the astro 220 !!!
    3. With RGN_Tool_V094 I changed the version number to 3.60 with the same boot.bin and fw_all.bin but again the "software missing" message.

    Am I missing something here ?

    Is there any way to dump the fw_all.bin file from another astro 220 running the 3.60 or 3.50 version and flash it directly to my 220 ?
    Thank you in advance ...

    @gvp
    Modern devices with Mass Storage Mode don't play so nice using G7ToWin to dump regions as it was designed for use with older units which didn't have a visible file system. I can't recall which type Astro 220 is, but if it has a visible file system you can maybe use the method described in this thread instead to dump any region using the 'rrgn' txt command: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

    Do a hard reset and maybe the correct fw version will be displayed. Similarly, maybe just re-booting will clear the 'system software missing' message depending on what's causing it. If the message's cause is that data in rgn14 (0x0E) is corrupt or incomplete or incompatible with the device then you do need to re-flash appropriate fw_all.bin. When system software missing message is displayed and the device is otherwise healthy then it should default to preboot mode automatically for flashing with Updater.exe.

    Edit: It's a 'region-only' device without a visible file system (accessible in Mass Storage Mode) so forget about using txt commands as they aren't written in it's firmware anyway.

    @Butters
    thank you for your answer,
    the astro 220 HWID=570 was a 2010 device, without a visible file system accessible in Mass Storage Mode as you already know.

    So, are you telling me that there is a way to dump the region 0E with G7ToWin ? Any tutorial ?
    I tried with GPSDaemon without success.

    No, sorry it can't dump. That was just a brain-fart on my part. Because I posted in a hurry i'd unwittingly written G7ToWin when i meant GPSDaemon. Some Garmin older devices also have shown to be stubborn when trying to dump regions with GPSDaemon. For example StreetPilot c3x0 series doesn't yield any results in my experience using the methods described in posts 33-35, as confirmed in P#36. I guess you tried all the listed methods for the astro.

    Did you try flashing PouchX's modified fw in it's original form (FR not EN)? If that works properly then it might be that the EN blocks are larger than the FR blocks you replaced. The same or less size for the language blocks is acceptable but an increase isn't.

    Would you kindly post a link to PouchX's V3.52 please, I had it on an old drive somewhere but can't find it now.

    @Butters
    I finally fixed it.
    The problem was 1 byte difference ... filled with 00 and it's ok now.
    Anyway thank you for your support.
